Dumping syndrome and sugar?

Recommended Posts

I had my first meal out last night, a little side of pulled pork (very lean) with BBQ Sauce from Sonnys. I put extra sauce on the meat to give it more flavor, but a few hours later everything came out of me and I barely made it to the bathroom. I'm wondering if I can't yet tolerate the sugar in the sauce?

I have heard some sleeve patients can not tolerate sugar, milk, salads

or fried foods.

I happen to be one that can not tolerate anything fried.

I would try it again in maybe a month or two and see what happens, good luck.

Thanks for the feedback! I didn't even know sleeves could have dumping syndrome until I joined this group.

I definitely had less tolerance of things in the first few months, especially if I ate something with a lot of carbs (it happened after mashed potatoes, and something that had sugar in it). I have absolutely no issues with different textures, like salad or rice or bread, but I find if I eat something that's too fatty I will feel a little nauseous.

Yeppers sleevers can dump. It was that BBQ Sauce that did you in. I had the pleasure of dumping with after sipping Gatorade to take my crushed meds. I had two exits that day. I will not do that again.

My mother-in-law is like ten years out and all she eats is sweets. I would not recommend that though.

I don't have any cravings for sweets, I think it's because of all the shakes and Jello and stuff. I just didn't put the two and two together on the sauce. I assume it's because I haven't had sugar in at least a month, I'm just glad I was home. I wonder if I can't have flavored Creamer now in my coffee (can't drink it til next week). May have to switch to sugar free...

Same here with the cravings. With the Protein Shakes and all, I don't have crcravings for sweets. With my plan I can only have sugar free items.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
