Severe left side pain

Recommended Posts

I'm 8 days post op and I have been having severe left sided pain that moves from my ribs to my hip bone. I've been to the ER after a ct scan and blood work they can't find a problem. I'm not constipated and I'm not over eating since I have to force myself to eat and drink during the day. Please tell me someone has had this and it will go away!

It does feel like the worst gas pain I've ever had but it isn't related to gas. I did 2 doses of milk of magnesia and it was unchanged the entire time.

I could be the residual gas that your doc put into your belly to be able to do your surgery. Are you walking? Does that help to alleviate the pain? You should all your doctor if it continues.

I'm already 8 days out so the residual air is gone and I have been in constant contact with my doc. I have 2 kids under 3, I have no choice but to be walking ????

I've had pretty bad pain at my left side too!

my surgeon told me that that was the side he did the most work through and that I have a short torso so there wasn't much room between my hip and the bottom of my ribs. I'm 2.5 weeks out now and not taking any pain meds. I still can't sleep on my left side comfortably, but it's definitely starting to get better

Thank you for all you replies!!! I found out I have a lateral herniation of my thoracic vertebrae. It was referred pain from that. My back has always bothered me and got inflamed more when I was recovering. Now just supportive chairs and time will make things better.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
