Started my liquid diet today....

Recommended Posts

I had my pre-op labs, swallow test, EKG and anesthesia clearance yesterday and started my liquid diet today. I quickly realized 2 things: the liquid diet won't be so bad after all and that there are SOOOOO many things around is that we can put in our mouths! I guess nothing will make you more aware of that fact than not being able to eat them....LOL! Procedure is on 10/17 and I'm super excited ????????????

What's Anesthesia clearance mean?

Congratulations on your surgery date and getting started with your pre-op diet -- I remember how excited I was and can hear that in your post. In fact I'm STILL excited 11 months out and so happy with everything this last year. Weight loss is great but then the getting out of food jail part, rise in self-confidence and return to self -- so amazing. Wishing you the very best. When we choose ourselves and our healthy futures first, what happens is astounding. For me that's what choosing to be banded was about-- a gift to myself.

Thank you all so much for the encouraging words and optimism as well. It's really helping me to know that there are so many success stories and people who are loving their journey.

Anesthesia clearance was me meeting with the anesthesiologist and him asking about my previous history and whether or not I've had problems with it in the past. He then signed off on the surgery and said it was a go.

I got my date (November 19, 2014). So excited. ???? I have even stated getting ready for the 2 weeks liquid diet. During the day I've been drinking the Protein Drinks along with all types of liquids, like broth, Jello and ice pops. I eat dinner when I get home. Then 2 days last week I went the entire day liquids. I did good. My family helped by cooking dinner, I went into my bed room ????. This test really helped me. The thought of going cold turkey all at once was causing me stress. I lost 10 pds already. I even thought of not doing the surgery but I know the 10 pds won't stay off if I don't get the lap ban. I took the 10 pd loss as a sign that I am ready for this and I can do it.

Did a lot of planning, making sure my family would have enough food for the month of November. Now that I have finish planning and have nothing but my thoughts, I am feeling a little depressed. Not sure why, but while I was running around trying to make sure that everything was set for my family, I didn't have to really think about much. But now everything is done and I feel like focusing on myself is making me depressed. I saw a woman at my job yesterday eating a bag of chips and I thought to myself I'm going to miss some salt vinegar chips. I'm scared, I'm scared of not being able to eat the foods I want to eat, I'm scared of the pain after the surgery, i'm scared of something going wrong during the surgery, I'm scared of not being successful. Having second thoughts. Just woke up feeling like I wanted to cry. Not to mention I am hungry and I don't feel well. The waiting for the surgery is the worst. The days ate going by so slow. I keep looking at the calendar.

I am struggling today the weekends are really hard. I do better during the work because I'm at work and I'm very busy. To make things worse "Big Red" is coming, plus I have been sick. I just got finish telling myself you can do this, so I got up and got a Protein Drink. I want a bag of chips so bad right now. It is a mind thing. If I get to hungry, I have been eating eggs or broth with white chicken meat in it. Trying to stay strong.

I feel you Ldimples! My surgery date is the 21st and I feel like i cannot focus on anything else. Because of my lower BMI, i only have to do 1 week of a liquid diet - although, i am so anxious about it that i want to just start it now! Best of luck to you!

I struggled this weekends, it was really hard. I do better during the week because I'm at work and I'm very busy. In my house Sunday is Pasta night, this was the worse night yet. I love, no, I am addicted to pasta. ????. Not being able to eat pasta last night made me very depressed ????. It even made me rethink about having the procedure. I went to my room closed the door and I survived. 10 more days, seems so long. I have lost 15 pounds already.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
