I am allergic to medical tapes and bandages. They create huge, red welts which usually end up being worse than whatever I'm trying to cover up. I've tried several different kinds and when I had a biopsy in 2011, I was told the tape they used would not cause a reaction and it did. Anyone else have a bandage allergy but do okay with what they use to put over the incisions for your bariatric surgery?

Maybe I'll go to the store and get some and test them out! Hahaha. Don't think I've ever used them. I'll have to talk to my surgeon about it. Thanks! :)

You're welcome! Good luck! I know how it stinks to have an allergy like that. After my son was born via c-section I had a giant sheet of tape (it looked like Saran Wrap) that covered my entire belly. When they pulled it off it was just terrible! I looked SO much worse after! They told me it was hypoallergenic! Ugh!

It does stink! It's supposed to help you get better and it makes it worse. Have to weigh the options lol.

Hi,

I can only use paper tape or cloth bandages.

I had no problem with the steri strips they used to close my incisions.

Maybe your surgeon could use glue to close your incisions.

Ask them about this and see what they say or ask if they could give you some steri strips and you could test them out before surgery.

Good luck with your surgery and your journey to a healthier you.

You may want to find out what is in that glue, used to close up surgical wounds, could you be allergic to it as well?

I have the same problem. After three months out I'm still itchy. Good luck.

I have an allergy to the adhesive used in the bandages. They used some type of glue to close my incisions, and I did just fine with that. My problem was with the IV, all of the blood draws, etc.

Sometimes they did them in the middle of the night and did not pay attention to my chart and put things on me they should not have.

Both of my forearms are discolored and took forever for the rash and raised skin to go away.

Oh, I never thought about the IVs. I'll just have to make sure my parents tell any nurse that walks in while I'm out....

They should ask if you have allergies. Let them know and they will figure something out. I am allergic as well- terrible burn rash. But I can get away with paper tape most times. Also targa deem can be used which might help- it's the clear plastic drape bandage ... But try the paper tape and ask them if it can be removed when just in bed to give your skin a break.

It is one thing to ask but another that all staff follow through. That was my big problem.

You could also try out a barrier spray or cream. It dries on the skin and the adhesive adheres to it instead of the skin. 3M makes one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HY6T7M?pc_redir=1412329547&robot_redir=1

I have an adhesive allergy, but I am okay with micropore paper tape.

I had a lot of itching with my sleeve incisions. I took Benadryl and still had rashes. For my plastics this summer I bought 5 different paper tapes and tried them before surgery because I knew I was going to have to use tape on the dressings. The 3M micropore didn't bother me at all, so I used it. If it hadn't worked I was going to use the barrier spray.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
