3 days till I'm sleeved but I'm so down?!

Recommended Posts

Okay so I get sleeved on Monday (6th) and I'm so excited and nervous but I'm also so down and emotional yet I don't know why?! Surely I should only be over the moon. Today also seems like the hardest day of this pre-op diet, want to eat everything I see (I haven't cheated once, so yay)

Any one else feel/felt like this?

Thanks x

I am also getting sleeved on Monday the 6th. I am SUPER excited but today i do kind of feel selfish at the same time. kinda like wow i could do a million other things with this money but in reality i shouldnt feel like this because my family isnt going to be without something because i decided to spend this money on myself sooooooo.... i just want to be happy and healthy for myself AND my family.

Yup, I felt kind of down and sad too. I don't want to bum you out, but for me, it didn't go away until several weeks after surgery and I began to feel like I was myself again. I think I felt that way because food was something that I've had a pretty significant relationship with my entire life. Before and right after surgery, I felt like that relationship was over and it literally did feel like a loss. I guess you could say that I was in mourning. Don't worry though. The weight starts melting off and you feel such a euphoria from that. Then, you realize eventually that you don't have to say goodbye to food. You'll be able to eat again and that sense of loss will leave you. You just can't eat much lol but you can still enjoy. Hell, it's actually more fun for me to go out to dinner now than it was before because I know that I'm totally going to get to enjoy whatever I order for the next 3 meals! One of my favorite hobbies now is searching Pinterest for neat bariatric or low carb recipes. IAnyway, hope this helps.

I'm also having vgs on Monday and having some weird thoughts. Mainly since I've always struggled with my weight I can't even imagine how it will be to not have that crutch. On the other hand i m having some 'magical' thinking that I should have been able to do this without surgery., that I'm just a weak person, this is what the majority of people who don't have a weight problem think. This gets to you after a lifetime of hearing it from even you 'thin' family members. But the magical thinking continues... there is a part of me that feels because this is "the easy route" that if something bad happens to me in surgery that I will have deserved it because I should have been able to control this on my own and I'm finding it difficult to imagine myself without the extra weighT. Has anyone else experienced these type of negative thoughts before surgury?

I will be sleeved on Tuesday, October 7th. I am very nervous and a bit down also. Today was my first day of just liquids. I haven't been hungry until today. Even foods I hate look good to me today!! I just keep praying to be calm and to know that this decision is the best for my health. If I let myself, I start questioning my decision -- so I have to give myself a lot of pep talks!

Thank you everyone for replying. I'm currently in the hospital hotel ready for my operation tomorrow at 7am. So nervous, feeling a lot better though. I hope you all are well and good luck to everyone getting it done!

You will be fine. It is totally normal to feel nervous before surgery and question having the surgery. I was crying and afraid even in preop. Once I woke up and it was done I was relieved. Now I am on a full liquid diet almost two weeks postoperative and still adjusting. List 30 pounds preop and 12 pounds the first week. Weigh in tomorrow with hopefully a loss. Jeep thinking positive. We will all be in the losers bench. Best of luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
