Hi guys!! My name is Alana. I am going to be sleeved on October 10th. I'm so excited to start this journey, but I'm also a little scared. This will be my first time being put to sleep. Any words of support would be awesome!!

http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/317411-newbie-looking-for-oct-sleevers/

there are a lot of us getting sleeved this month. you will find people there with the same concerns, all in the same time frame.

i've had anaesthesia several times, and it's really nothing. you will be asleep practically before you are aware of them administering anaesthesia (the anaesthesiologist will shoot it into the IV s/he will put in during pre-op). you may feel it burn a little bit, i usually do, and that burning tells you that you will be asleep in less than 15 seconds.

it's normal to be nervous about surgery. remember why you're doing it, and do your best to stay positive. it helps!

Try to focus on the excitement and not the fear. Surgery is only one day and recovery is fast but the results last so much longer.

Ask for Xanax or something similar now if you need something to take the edge off your nerves leading up to surgery. As soon as they put in the IV, ask them for medication to calm your nerves. I have no idea what the anesthesiologist gives you but you don't have a worry at all. They wheeled me into surgery and I moved over to the surgery table and never felt a bit nervous. The power of pharmaceuticals!

Enjoy your blissful snooze, you will be awake before you know it. I had mine done last month and it was easy!

Being put to sleep is the best part! You wake up and it's magically all over!

Seriously though, as far as surgeries go, this one is pretty mild. It may seem extreme to have almost your whole stomach removed, but if you look at the actual studies, VSG has a lower mortality rate than a knee replacement! You'll be fine.

What you're feeling is totally normal. I would go thru periods of "I can't wait" to "Oh my god, what am I doing to myself." Just breath...look ahead. Think about post-op life - think about the amazing things you're going to be able to.

I'll be honest, I almost backed out the night before surgery and the morning of, right in admitting. I was so scared. That morning in admitting I thought to myself, "I could walk out of here right now and only be out $500." But then something changed - I looked at my husband, he didn't say anything, he didn't even look at me. I decided right then this was the right thing for me to do. I was able to confidently walk down the hall and start the process.

I will tell you, short of marrying my husband and having my son, this was the best decision I have ever made in my life. All of the insecurity, fear, anxiety - totally worth it because I'm here, 10 months later living the life I'm supposed to lead. I'm active, I'm happy, I have energy. My only regret is not doing this sooner when I first started to think about WLS years and years ago.

Best of luck to you all! We'll see you very soon on the losers bench!

So the way I got over that fear is, I have a cousin who is an anesthesiologist...told me that a "person is at higher risk each that person gets in a car, the difference is you'll have a highly trained professional anesthesiologist watching over you". Hope that helps

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
