The PAIN of swallowing!

Recommended Posts

I am almost a month post-op. Overall a very easy recovery. I am eating mushy foods and soft meats. I am really struggling with the pain when swallowing food OR liquids. I thought it was becuase of the hernia repair, but at almost a month out, it has not improved. Also when food/liquids hit my stomach I get a very unpleasant stomach cramp. I just cringe and wait for it to pass. Anyone else going though this?? Could I just be eating to fast or not chewing enough? I know its getting where I want to avoid eating/drinking all together.

I think if you are month out and still having trouble swallowing, you might want to talk to your surgeon. My discomfort from swallowing subsided after about a week and a half. Of course, I didn't have a hernia repair, so that may be factoring into it.

I had hernia repair and didn't have any pain swallowing or any cramping when liquids get to my stomach. I'm still on full liquids (which includes Soups and pudding) so that might be a factor. I'd ask my doctor, sounds unusual.
