Send me strength to face cake!

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow is my daughter's 2nd birthday.

I am on my liquid pre-op diet.

Cake, chips, barbecue, potato salad. OMG. Heeellllppp!

Plus my in-laws (who don't know I'm doing the surgery) will be there, asking questions about why I'm not eating and trying to force food down my throat.

I am really nervous about this. So far the liquid diet has gone ok, but I am worried about tomorrow. Send me strength and good vibes to resist temptation!

I went to a neighborhood block party. Everybody brought food! I remember wanting a meatball SO badly. I brought my own treat-- no sugar yogurt pureed with a little paw paw + Sweet N' Low. It was delicious. Still wanted that meatball. Just keep in mind what your end goal is and you'll be fine!

sending you strength vibes ~~~~~~~~~

if the cake is chocolate, think of it as made of poop. can't think of anything equivalent for vanilla... i'm a chocolate girl.

re: the in laws... maybe tell them you're going for blood work on monday and the doc told you to do the special diet for it? or tell them you ate before everyone came because you knew how busy you would be at the party?

Just tell the in-laws "I'm trying very hard to lose weight." They don't need to know the method.

I know how you feel, though. The second day of my pre-op diet I had to go to a wedding. I looked terribly out of place drinking a Protein shake at the reception. I can't remember what they served at the wedding, but I can tell you the thrill I had a few weeks ago fitting into a size 10 jeans!

I hear ya. The other day was my mother in laws bday celebration cake, pizza chicken parm oh my.. And this week I have both my brothers and my nieces bday parties. Really all while on the two week pre op diet... But I made it thru the first one and I will make it thru the next two and so will you. Just remember you made this decision for yourself. And be strong.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
