Day 5 post-op -- feeling yucky!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Monday 9/19 and 5 days later I'm still adjusting to it. I'm following all the rules and directions given but every time I take a sip it feels like it gets stuck in my esophagus and wants to come back up. Anyone else feel that way?

I also feel a burning sensation on my chest and of course I'm still bloated.

I know I'll be happy about this surgery in a few weeks after this initial stage but it sure feels bad now!

Congrats on your band! It does get better. Today is one month post op for me. It took about 7-8 days for the burning feeling from gas to end for me. What really helped was placing a heating pad on my stomach and the anti gas chewables. Good luck!

Welcome to Bandland. I didn't have those sensations but it should improve each day. I recommend that if you're at ALL uncertain about symptoms heading into a weekend, don't hesitate to phone your team before they leave for the weekend. They are there for you. It's harder to get questions answered on Saturday and Sunday. You're not bothering them. An engaged patient is a successful patient. Much success to you!!!!

Post-op I found warm tea and broth to be easiest for me to swallow. I couldn't handle the thicker things, like Protein shakes (plus I was sick of them from two weeks on pre-op diet!). Also I really enjoyed popsicles during this time. Hope you're feeling better today -- there is a turnaround point for each of us. I found the walking really, really helped me. Plus I had to take something for Constipation. Even though I didn't take pain medication post-op (the side effects seem worse to me than the discomfort), I had to address constipation at 4-5 days out. Best wishes to you! You are on your way -- worst is behind you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
