Suggestions for early stall (2 wks post op)

Recommended Posts

I've been going back and forth about posting this here but I'm starting to get very discouraged and I was hoping someone could chime in with some suggestions for me.

I had surgery on Sept 16th. I'm about 2.5 weeks out of surgery. I've had a fairly easy recovery; minimal pain, no bowel issues, a couple of bouts with nausea but I'm pretty much back to my old self again with the exception of my eating habits. Within the first 10 days, I lost about 9 lbs which I thought was great. Since then, nothing, nada. The number on my scale has been the exact same with I find incredibly confusing and discouraging. I'm still in phase 2 of my plan, which is full liquids.

I understand that everyone is different when it comes to weight loss but I would think that the scale would have moved some. I will say that I don't have as much to lose as most people. I weighed 199.9 on the day of surgery but still.

I'm not really counting calories because I'm not taking in a whole lot of food.

My Protein shakes are 160 calories each so I'm getting about 320 calories from that. For Breakfast I have about an ounce of light greek yogurt thinned with a touch of skim milk. This accounts for about 50 calories, maybe. For lunch and dinner I have about 1.5 oz of cream of chicken Soup thinned with skim milk so about 100 calories total. I probably have about 500-600 calories a day. I'm taking in about 48-50 oz of Water daily.

Am I eating too little?

Any suggestions would be so helpful!!

Thanks :)

Congrats!! You are doing great!

Stay off the scale and focus on getting in fluids and Protein. Your body is still getting use to the changes but no worries in a few the weight will begin to decline. Your calories for now are good as you progress to the next stages your calorie in take will increase.

I stalled a little bit later - 4 weeks, I think. It was about 10 days of flat-line and now I'm back to losing again. My Dr. said "PLEASE just weight yourself once a week!" Keep doing what you are doing, it will come off. Your body has to adjust to what it's been through and going through.

The scale is not the issue for the first couple of months is what I was told. My doc & staff told me to focus on my intake, (fluids, Vitamins, Protein . . .) & moving a bit more each day. The weight loss will take care of it self if I keep my eye on the factors that will affect the changes & not the number on the scale. Be well & keep on keeping on.

Stalls are normal but as it was stated above you need to focus on your Protein, Water, food, and Vitamin intake, stay off of the scale the weight will come off, I have had several stalls an dI am almost 5 months post opt, as long as you are eating correctly you will be fined, remember to walk as well . Your body has gone through a major surgery and it needs time to heal. I now exercise 5 times per week although the scale may not moved down weekly you are still loosing inches. Only weight yourself once per week if you must. Congrats on your weight surgery and good luck my friend keep us posted.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I knew that there would be stalls, I was just surprised it happened so soon after surgery. I am back to losing again, a pound or two here. I'm doing everything I should. Just spend 45 minutes on the treadmill at the gym. I've decided to stay positive and keep working hard to get to my goal.

Thanks again!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
