When all else fails ...I'm considering Gastric sleeve

Recommended Posts

2 years ago something bad happened in my marriage it was very depressing for me and started to gain MORE weight than the 25 lbs I had already gained since the birth of my 4th child , to make a long and depressing story short here I'm 79 lbs overweight ,divorced and single mom of 4.

I have tried every single diet or trick you can imagine to loose weight and couple of times I have lost up to 25 lbs only to gain it back and then some... I have 3 friends that had the lapband surgery done and for the first couple of years were doing wonderful later 2 of the had the lapband removed and had the gastric sleeve done...so I'm considering very strongly to skip all that and just have the sleeve surgery done, I have been doing a lot of research as well as attend a couple of seminars and think this is the best choice for me, now comes another challenge choosing the right doctor.I'm self pay and considering having surgery done in Tijuana Mexico, I live in San Diego and Tijuana is just across the border , I have an appointment to see Dr. Francisco Gonzalez in two weeks , 2 friends of mine had the surgery done with him not too long ago and they are an inspiration to me they are a different and happier person now , and I really need some of that in my life before I go crazy... any advise?

Hello!!! I also live in Sunny SD, but right now, I'm not really enjoying the sun. It's soooo hot! Can't believe we're having another heat wave so soon after the last one. As far as surgeons in Mexico, I've heard a lot of people on this site as well as ObsityHelp.com say they've had great experiences with some of the bariatric centers South of the border. The trick is finding/knowing the right one to go to. You will have to do tons of research to find a reputable one. Many people have posted about their surgeons/weightloss centers. I wish I could remember the names of the really good ones I've read about, but I don't. So sorry, but if you keep searching these support sites, you will soon find the info you need. I don't know about this site, but obesityhelp.com has a thread about good weight loss surgeons in Mexico. Hope this helps, and hope you find a great surgeon. Take care, and stay hydrated in this heat!!!

Check out the Self-Pay & Mexico Gastric Sleeve Surgery forum for LOTS of info on Mexico surgeons. I read a million posts on there while choosing my surgeon and it really helped me find the right surgeon for me. I had my surgery a month ago and everything went wonderfully! I hope you have as much success in choosing a surgeon and recovering from your operation as I did!

Hello again and thank you so much for taking the time respond to my post, like I mentioned before I had my appointment to see Dr. Francisco Gonzalez on the 22nd of October and guess what...I WAS AFRAID ! and rescheduled. Finally I went in for my life changing appointmet November 2nd. :D by then I gained 3 more pounds, can you beleve it ?

I'm proud of my self now, I went in for my consultation with hundreds of questions and I have to say Dr. Gonzalez is so understanding and kind when I came out of his office I felt like some one had, for the first time understood how I felt for so many years. :P

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
