A "surprise" during my sleeve operation

Recommended Posts

The doctor found a benign mass on my liver during my 9/30 operation. And I am not allowed to take birth control pills anymore. It was good I learned it was there so I can keep an eye on it. Anyone else have stories like that.

I had scar tissue from four previous open abdominal surgeries. My sleeve surgery was 5 1/2 hours as my surgeon had to remove the scar tissue before she could proceed. Hoping for a good outcome for you.

I guess you have already told the surgeon about your previous surgeries, right? Not everyone forms scar tissue. She told me as she was completing the sleeve and leaving my tummy I was already forming scar tissue. So I guess I'm just made that way. All the best.

The camera that they inserted nick my mesenteric artery. I was bleeding a lot. The vascular surgeon came in an assisted in fixing it. I am fine. But I was very weak for a week post-op.

I had scar tissue as well but my surgeon knew about it before surgery. I had my spleen removed in 1962 & it interfered getting to the liver. I also had to have a hiatal hernia fixed. All said & done, everything went well. Still glad I had this surgery.

I had a tumor found on my liver during my preop testing, labs, ultrasound, several MRI's, they say it appears benign also and I pray they are right. I put my surgery off for one month because I wanted to know if I was ok, if I had cancer then I was not going to have my surgery. So happy they found it so now it can be monitored. Did they remove yours? Mine is small so unless it hurts they are leaving it untouched. And congrats on your surgery.

I had one, too. It was big and ugly so they took it out. Nothing was said about no longer taking BC pills, though. :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
