Pre-op exercising? Flabby skin?Anyone my age?

Recommended Posts

Hi this is my first post. Im 16 and I'm preparing for gastric sleeve in late November or early December. Yes i know that i am young but if you've went threw what i went threw you'd understand and I'm sure most of you do. I just had a couple of questions. So my surgeon was explaining to me that a lot of weight loss surgery patients end up having to have plastic surgery to take care of the flabby skin do to the quick weight loss or something like that. He said that i shouldn't even worry about flabby skin because the younger you are the less flabby skin you'll have and i shouldn't have any at all. Is their anyone out there who didn't get the flabby skin problem? Anyone around my age? And to help the skin problem ive been exercising here and there just to tone up so that after surgery i can already be in the habit of working out and toneing my body. Any advice on that?

Your surgeon is correct, younger patients are less likely to have the loose skin issues, mostly because their skin still has some elasticity (sp?). I am 26 and I am close to my goal weight, but I don't see myself wanting to have plastic surgery because I am not having much of a problem with loose skin. I mean, I have alot in my belly area, but it looks about the same as it did before surgery, just that now it is loose skin instead of fat. :) Toning is also a great way to make sure that doesn't happen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
