First off you need to modify your thinking to a more positive one.

Hold off deciding if it will work for you until you get more information. Go to a Seminar and speak to the source. Find out everything you can and then evaluate your reasons for wanting it and your determination and ability to make the needed changes in your life to have a successful outcome. It's a last resort, not a quick fix.

Good luck. ;)

It CAN work, but it's not an "instafix". You have change your behavior to make it stick. For me, the sleeve gave me the restriction I needed to stop over eating. That was it.

I changed my relationship with food.

I started a 5 day per week exercise habit.

I started food journaling so I know whats going in vs what's burning off.

I attend face to face support groups and have sought out friends in my life who support me, and I them.

And I do it all with a mindset that I WILL succeed as long as I maintain the habits of the fit person I've learned to be.

There are countless studies that show that it DOES work. But not for everyone. Do your research and try to figure out if it can work for you. WLS is only a tool. It's still up to you whether or not to use that tool correctly.

It's a normal fear, especially when we fail at every other diet. I was afraid and sometimes am still afraid of that myself.

However, data shows as well as what I've seen on here, that it works a whole heck of a lot more than anything else you could do. 5% success rate for all other diets up to 80% success rate with surgery.

And yes, you have to make changes but the surgery does enable those changes. I've logged my food for years and stayed fat but of course, I always stopped logging when I started overeating. I have just started logging again in the past few months. But I'm very focused on getting the right amount of Protein and the only way to know is to track my food. As we lose weight, exercise becomes easier to do so again, the surgery enables the new, healthier habit.

It is a very effective tool. It is also a life altering surgery... Both good and bad... And not to be taken lightly. I considered it for several years. Finally decided it was my best alternative. I am only 3 weeks out and admit the rough recovery has made me doubt my decision. But I think 6 months from now I will be very glad I did this. Heed the advice above. Go to some support group meetings and meet people who have had it done. Don't rush it.

A tool. A wonderful tool. But, nothing to rush into and I believe the 6 month meets with the dietitian and getting active on these boards will, as I progress, be the main reason I am going to succeed, and turn my life around.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
