The daily level of Protein intake should be the same. The Protein level is a combination of the protein obtained in meals combined with the protein taken as supplements (Protein shakes, protein bars). I am 17 months post-op from RNY and I consume 60 grams of protein from my meals. I am off Protein Shakes.< /p>

How do you get 100 gms of Protein in daily? I was told by my NUT that the body can only absorb an average of 20 gms at a meal so "extra" is wasted. If my math is right, to get 100 gms a day you would need to eat 5 meals with 20 gms each.

I am not trying to be difficult about this, actually I am asking for tips on how to get to 100 gms a day. I have been trying to get my Protein intake up and am getting frustrated with this issue. I feel I am becoming obsessed with food just to get healthy, loose weight and I don't want to constantly worry that I am not getting the protein I need daily.

Since the sleeve procedure there are days when I am lucky to get 30 gms because I am not hungry and when I do sit down to eat, I barely eat half what is on the plate (and my plates are so small a 2 year old would want seconds! I know because I have grandchildren that have commented on how much I put on my plate)

I've also been told a single supplement with more than 25g is kind of a waste. I'm a year out and though I eat Protein heavy meals, I still do 2 whey based supplements per day, (about 40-45g worth). I dump a scoop of chocolate whey in my coffee in the morning, (I'm kinda hooked on the taste now) and usually do a Quest or PowerCrunch bar in the afternoon, (my "cookie"). The rest is spread out in meals. I typically get at least 80g per day. I'd only hit half that if I just relied on food.< /p>

I'm 4 weeks post op and I've only managed 100 grams one time, yesterday in fact. I have managed t get 98 a couple of other times. Here's what I ate yesterday:

Breakfast: Protein shake (17g)

Morning Snack: Reduced Fat String cheese (8g)

Lunch: Leftover Wendy's Chili w/ .5 oz. of Reduced Fat cheese (12 g)

Afternoon Snack: Leftover Lobster Bisque with some Reduced Fat Cheese (11g)

Pre Work-out Snack: 1/2 Whole Wheat Mini Pita with 1 TBSP Hummus (4g)

Dinner: Shelly's Ricotta Bake 1.5 servings - I usually have 1/6th of recipe but last night had 1/4th (19g)

Evening Snack: Protein Shake (30g)

Yesterday was the most food I've eaten in one day since my surgery. I was exactly one month post-op.

I've planned out my food for today and I've only come up with 90 grams of protein. I really just try to keep it over 85.

Edit: I thought I'd go ahead and list out my planned food for today so you can get some more ideas.

Breakfast: Protein shake (17g)

Morning Snack: Reduced Fat String Cheese (8g)

Lunch: Scrambled Egg w/ .5 oz. of Reduced Fat Cheese and Taco Sauce (10g)

Afternoon Snack: Dannon Fit & Light Greek Yogurt (12g)

Pre Work-out Snack: 1/2 Whole Wheat Mini Pita with 1 TBSP Peanut Butter (6g)

Dinner: 4 oz. Jack Daniel's Pulled chicken (7g)

Evening Snack: Protein Shake (30g)

Lately I've been trying to avoid "processed food" as well as artificial sweeteners, so I've gone off the Protein shakes--BUT, if your having a really hard time I would suggest adding a Protein shake a day. You could drink half in the morning and half in the afternoon, in between your meals as a snack. That would spread it out. Premier shakes have 30g, Atkins have 15g, Boost Diabetic has 16g. It could help! You could also snack on cheese strings, add more milk to your tea/coffee (latte!!), snack on nuts, or beef Jerky. :)

Lena, I made my way back to processed foods, unfortunately, and all they do is make me feel tired, irritable, and heavy.....but oh do I love them! Enough is enough though, I need to concentrate on the Protein, will take the suggestions of Protein Bars and perhaps going back to the shakes.....

I was also instructed to consume 80-100 grams of Protein for life - but have found it almost impossible. I am 8 months post op and have found that the only way I can come anywhere close to that amount is to add an powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shake to my daily routine. It is 29 grams of Protein for 8 oz. I also do high-protein Snacks such as greek yogurt (12 grams each). My tiny little pouch restricts me too much to actually hit my protein goal without adding the shake though.

May 2013. Never get enough, losing hair again. Wrong foods, again. So busy it's nearly impossible. Falling fast! Quest bars I use to eat all the time. So sick of them. Anyone have any quick easy Protein suggestions? Thanks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
