How long does it take for the gas pains to go away?

How did you manage to get all your Protein in? I can barely get 12 oz of Water down.

How was your first couple of days?

Please tell me this get easier. I was so excited and now I'm thinking wth is going on. After reading everything I thought I would have better control over this but seems this is controlling me. I have been walking but these gas pains are insane. The nurse told me it's no need of taking gas x because this is a different kind of gas so the strips may not work.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Hi! Congrats on taking the first step to a healthier life. I had surgery on 9/15 and right after surgery I also had bad has pain as well. My lasted for about a week. I started passing gas like 3 days later and I felt so relieved but all the gas pain actually went away like a week later. I was in a lot pain after surgery as well as bad nausea. But I want to tell you it does get better with time. Sup your fluids slowly. And sip often as possible. In the beginning it is hard to get all your fluids in but as your swelling goes down it gets easier. Walking helped with the pain, especially the gas pain. Overall it gets better with time and I do want to tell you not to feel discouraged or to feel like you made a mistake. You chose this surgery for a reason and it will get better with time. I use to feel that way also "what have I don't to myself?"..lol..but now I have already dropped 25 lbs and I am happy with that. Just stick with it and I will pray that things get easier for you. Good luck and god bless

You'll have both kinds of gas. Trust me! Even if not it can't hurt to try taking some to see if it eases your pain. GL!

Things will get better - they will.

Gas pains - I had pain in my left shoulder for a week after surgery. For that pain, I agree, Gas-X isn't going to help. The only thing that helped with the pain in my shoulder was walking, just pacing thru the house. It took a week for it to go away but it got better each day.

I couldn't get all the Protein and Water minimums in for about a week after surgery. Just do the best you can. I realized quickly that I could no longer tolerate plain Water - I drank nothing but plain water prior to surgery, but post-op couldn't drink it. I got dehydrated and felt horrible. I switched to Vitamin Water Zero and Propel Zero (both zero calorie drinks) and was able to get more in. I set the timer on my phone to chime every 5 minutes and that was my reminder to sip.

Each day will get easier. Everything is a chore now and it will feel like that for a while. Once you start introducing foods, you'll get frustrated with how long it takes to eat (I remember crying one day because it took me 20 minutes to eat 1/2 of a scrambled egg).

I'm here to tell you that at 10 months post-op those things, those frustrations, pains, worries are a distant memory. I'm now living the life I'm supposed to live. I'm living a new normal now.

You're going to do great - be kind to yourself and your new tummy. You will learn what you can and can't do!

I don't think you need to stress about getting much Protein in so soon post-op. I wasn't worried about Protein at all until a week post-op when I was allowed to start having Protein shakes again.

As for gas pain, mine was worst before I got my drain out. Do you have a drain? Once mine came out, I felt MUCH better.

It all does get MUCH easier. I'm only a month post op and I feel a billion times better than I did those first few days. It will get a little better every day. You'll be able to get more Water in. You'll be able to start getting in more liquid foods and eventually move on to purees. Each step makes it better and better. I am feeling almost "normal" now and in those first few days I couldn't even remember what normal felt like! Be patient and hang in there!

It gets better literally every day. Swallowing liquids gets better every day too. I know what you mean. I'm three weeks out. It took me literally 20 minutes to take down my 2 oz pain medicine. My first day at home it took me all day to finish one 11 oz Protein Shake. By day 3 I was drinking 2 shakes. You gotta sip sip sip all day. It will feel like a job. Don't worry about exact numbers and ounces for the first few days. By day 3 or 4 you should try to drink 4 to 6 ounces of liquids an hour. That's doable and it should get you to around 64 ounces. You'll feel a lot better in a few days! By day 5/6 or so I was off my pain meds. The exit incision is gonna be the worst part. It still is sore for me a bit, especially if I twist a certain way.

I am right there with you. Sleeved yesterday and was sick and in horrible pain all night. I have to stay at least one additional day. But the nurses assure me it goes away for everyone.

Did you have a hernia repair also? Asking because I did and I felt like that too. Pain meds helped a bit...2nd & 3rd day was the worst! 5 days out, feeling so much better! Hang in there!

Yes I had a hernia as well. This AM it seems some of the gas is releasing so I'm happy about that.

I've only taken one pain pill since coming home. It's more of the gas pains than anything. I was told the pain pills won't really help for that. My incisions aren't so bad it's the gas that's trapped in my chest and shoulders.

I had my sleeve done 9/30 as well. First two days I wondered what had I done and had serious regret. Fast forward a couple day and I feel awesome. Even bowled yesterday in my league. I was in extreme pain till I got up and walked it off, in addition gas x is a life saver. Already 12 pounds down since surgery and no problems drinking at all. Best decision of my life, you just have to believe.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
