Hockey stick / candy cane / roux or blind limb

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. Sorry I haven't been around for ages but I've had nothing to say. Now after several months, I have my second opinion as to why my bypass didn't work (no restriction).

Well, it seems there are 2 surgical errors. One is that the stoma is indeed too large (15-20mm) and is ineffective, there's no hold up of food at the site. And secondly, I have what they call an extra limb that comes off the pouch and looks like a hockey stick or candy cane.

Has anyone else had experience with either of these problems? xx

Jeez, how did that happen? But more importantly what are they going to do about it?

Yes! I just had yet... another scope, (my 14th. in less than 6 yrs.) due to urping, puking my food and constant nausea. My Dr. expected to stretch a stricture again and to take a peek at my ulcer... possibly schedule for a joint revision... (re-do surgery.) Ulcer has healed, no strictures... BUT I now have an, "extended, candy cane limb." So I'll be having a barium swallow, (again!) soon so he can decide if that's causing my nausea, small food consumption, puking and urping. So I guess it's likely for a surgical procedure for that as well. Geeze!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
