Hey everyone, so I've been on the pre op diet for over a week and have 5 days left of it. I've lost 12lbs but since the weekend, I'm staying at the same weight. I know this diet isn't about losing weight, it's about shrinking the liver but I'm exercising as well and it feels like I've just stalled. Is this normal? It's just kind of getting me down. Has anyone else been the same?

Thanks

I lost ten pounds and then stalled the last five days or so. I was drinking so much Water and trying to hydrate for surgery, I think it counteracted the weight loss. You will do fine! As long as you've followed your Preop diet, there should be nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't worry about the number of pounds you lose or stalls, just follow the program to shrink the liver. The pounds will really come way down on their own after surgery. Best wishes!

Don't worry about it at this stage - a lot of what you've lost so far is Water - as the glycogen is used up, the Water it's held in disappears and so your liver shrinks.

This is not the same as burning fat. You may have lost a couple of pounds of fat so far as well as the water, but you would have had to have eaten 42,000 fewer calories than you need over the past week to lose 12lb of fat (3,500 cals = 1lb) - and that's highly unlikely.

There will be plenty of time to burn off fat once the op has been done.

Just concentrate on shrinking your liver to make the op easier for the surgeon and forget about the weight until afterwards. Good luck with it and let us know how it goes.

Thank you everyone, that's put my mind at ease. I was just panicking. Don't want anything to ruin this operation. Thank you again for your help and kind words.

I lost 8.6 pounds the first week of my pre-op diet and only 2.2 pounds the second week. I think it's pretty normal to lose really fast right in the beginning, because it's such a shock to the system, depending on how extreme your pre-op diet is. Full disclosure, though, I went from exercising every day the first week to every other day the second week, because my energy level just go SO LOW on so few calories. My pre-op diet was only 450 calories a day.

I too am at a stand still but reading all this is reassuring. I lost 10 and scale has not moved in 4 days 3 days left to surgery

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
