You swallow a radio opaque liquid that you can watch go down your esophagus, through your sleeve and into your intestines. It was very cool. Other surgeons may do a more basic barium swallow radiograph. You swallow the liquid and a radiograph (or series of radiographs) is taken to see that the liquid is passing through the sleeve and that nothing is leaking out into the abdominal cavity.
