CafeCathey 21 Posted October 23, 2014 Surgery 10/14/14 and i had my first cup of coffee 1 week out. Personally I wouldn't touch Decaf. Also I drink my coffee black. Caffeine doesn't seem to have a huge affect on me.
johnsydney 65 Posted October 25, 2014 I read somewhere that regular coffee and Decaf both cause the same amount of irritation / acid, so from a sleeve perspective it doesn't make much different choosing decaf. I drink regular coffee during the day and a decaf with a shot of whisky at bedtime so it doesn't keep me awake and I have no problems. My surgeon said drink coffee as you normally would, if it causes acid / reflux cut down or stop, if it doesn't affect you, drink away!
johnsydney 65 Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) Apologies just noticed this is a bypass thread. I am talking about my experiences with my sleeve. Don't know how coffee affects bypass patients, please disregard! I can't see how to delete my comment. Edited October 25, 2014 by johnsydney
allielee 263 Posted October 27, 2014 I drink one cup of coffee every morning and haven't had any issues and my doc said one cup was fine.
KMCarlson 30 Posted October 28, 2014 My mom had the RNY about 5 years ago and drinks coffee like it's nobody's business. I think she started a month or so post op.
