Who is your surgeon? I had dr. Brown and he was amazing! Most surgeons here are very good...I haven't heard of hardly any issues with the Big 3 here. Let me know if I can help!

I'm not going to lie. Some people on here say, "I feel so good, no nausea, no vomiting". Well, they are the minority. I would venture to say that if anyone never had any of those symptoms while in the hospital or when you first got home - hogwash. I threw up (dry heaves) one time. It was after my walk in the hall, which was not painful, you are just so weak. I threw up again at home, but I think it was because I drank too much in one swallow.

This is a life changing surgery. You WILL have buyers remorse, everybody does. Heck, my surgery was 9/11, and I still have my moments. When I see that commercial on TV with something really bad for me and I think, geez, I can't have that anymore! But you know what, the weight is falling off. When my husband says, "honey, you are doing so good" or my daughter says, "mom, I am so proud of you for doing this for yourself", it makes it ALL worthwhile. I WILL have the final yahoo when I go shopping for the first time and buy something for myself because I like it, and not because it fits.

I said all that to say - YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! When you get the feeling, "what in the crap have I done", your next thought should be, "But this is so worth it in the end". Good Luck to you!! Good nursing care in the hospital makes a world of difference!!!

I had very little pain after. The first 24 hours kind of sucked, but it was smooth sailing for me anyway after. I was lucky and had no gas pain, was nauseous only once.

Dr Brown used an "On-Q pain pump" that might have made the difference (who really knows) basically it delivered topical pain meds directly I to my abdomen for about 48 hours.

I have heard great things about dr Snyder....you should be in good hands!

I am on the road to Denver (8 hours from my home) for surgery. I have been reading all the posts & most are positive but the complications are so scary. I want to be healthy, active & want to live life to the fullest if I dont lose weight my future is not so bright. Im so nervous.

I was a train wreak. Took an ambien the night before and still couldn't sleep so got up and cleaned the house in slow-motion. The next morning waiting for the procedure I really wanted to leave. I'd had surgery before in situations when I had no choice. Back surgery and a c-section. This felt so different in that I didn't have to do it. I could continue living - a crappy life - but I could. In the end my sister said the most simple and beautiful thing, "You need your power back." She's right, I've given up so much being overweight and unhealthy. What will you get back? Hang onto that as you prepare for surgery. Keep the biggest possible picture in mind. I had a rough start with a couple of random - not gonna happen to you - complications and even with that it was all okay. I'm only a week post-op so I don't want to come across as a vet when I'm not. Just trying to let you know your feelings are normal and show you have the good sense to be worried. Chances are very very slim that you will have complications - and even if you do you and your medical team will get you through them. Is someone with you to keep you from dwelling? Hope this helps. I'm on pain killers still so I may sound a little nutty. PM me if you need support!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
