Starting to get the jitters!

Recommended Posts

Insurance just confirmed the approval for my surgery. Blood work and anesthesia clearance tomorrow, surgeon just called to confirm Monday for my surgery.

Excited that this is finally going to happen but also starting to freak a little.

I know fear of the unknown is our biggest enemy and it stops us from doing a lot of things that is the best for us.

I'm just so nervous of what it's going to feel like once I start eating again. So nervous I've lost my appetite for the past two days.lol

I know this was the best decision I've made. I've lost 22 lbs since I had my first consult. I know I can do this just can't stop the jitters.

First off, CONGRATULATIONS !!! 2nd off, take a few deep breaths ................... it will help with the jitters. If this is any help, my surgery was easy, and recovery were easy as long as I moved very slowly the 1st week or so. food wise , I can eat alot of what I ate before, some of it I choose to only eat occasionally, like fast food, a few things I cant eat at all, ( raw broccoli and chicken breast), some only a little bit ( brown rice , Pasta, some breads) . The weight that came off of me was far more important than any food I couldnt have, Im VERY happy I was banded, its just been a win win from the beginning !! Hope yours goes smoothly toon! Good luck !!

@@Queenz_Cece Your doing amazing so far! Don't worry about the loss of appetite that's what we all want :) The first few weeks will be a little rough, but if your expecting it to be "bad" then it's going to be. So take comfort that it's really not all that bad. All I took was Tylenol for pain and not even that most of the time, so your going to be OK.

The first few days what really helped me was warm (not hot not cold) sweet tea. Decaf tea with sweet N low or other sugar substitute. I would spoon it slowly from the cup. Here are a few tips for when you get home:

sugar free ice pops are your best friend! They help internal swelling and help you to keep hydrated

Heating pad to put under your back/shoulder to help the gas pains if you have them

Ice Pack. This helps on the port site incision as well as any others. Keeps swelling and pain down.

Beano/Gas-Ex
Medicine cups. You can get these from the Dr. or the hospital they help when you need to learn to take small sips. Takes away the urgency to gulp from a cup or larger container.

Biggest key to recovery is to walk walk walk. It will help move the gas out of your body. Never felt so happy to fart as I did that first day after surgery! Get used to the noises your body is about to start making they last for a while some never go away. There will be lots of toots.

Have your self all set up at home with lots of Protein shakes you like, sugar free- fat free puddings, broths and all the things you will need for the first few days at home.

If you are feeling nauseous after surgery while still in the hospital don't try to "tough" it out. Tell the Dr. and/or nurses and have them give you something for it.

Most of all give yourself lots of TLC, and be patient with yourself as you heal. You are starting a whole new life just like a new born and there are new things to learn, and experiences to have as you embark on this journey some can be scary like getting ready for this surgery but they are also exciting!! So focus on exciting and happy and healthy and you will do GREAT!

Never regretted my decision to have surgery and loving it every day!

One good tip for the future is...all the things you think you will never eat again. Never fear because you will eat them again, but you will eat them differently and enjoy them 10 times more.

Queen cece and mama rita, lisa caron is right on the money on everything ! Dont forget to take a chapstick, a BIG bottle of Water ( not too cold ) and a toothbrush and toothpaste. I had the worst cottonmouth when I came out of surgery, it took me all day to get rid of it ! Also, my pain was'nt bad at all, and I have a low tolerance for pain. I quit taking the liquid pain meds after the 2nd day, didn't need them as it just felt like a really bad pulled muscle on my left side. So you'll probably feel out of sorts for the first few days, a little tired and raggedy, but thats normal. I'be banded 3 yrs in Dec, wouldn't change a thing !! Good luck !!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
