Well folks, I've read about it over and over and over and over again....3 week stall. It won't happen to me I said. Well it's a for sure thing. Been stuck now at the same weight all week and it's really really frustrating. Especially when my doc says a guy my size should be able to drop about 20 lbs a month in the beginning.

Incision pain starting to get better and I've gone to the gym, walking on the treadmill, moving more, nothing seems to help. Been following the rules, eating about 600 cal per day consistently. scale is just being a lil B**** at the moment. ????????????????????????????????

???????????????? Praying for a better week 4! I realize it's not a sprint and I'm committed, just darn frustrating.

i don't get why that is....i will be 3 weeks tomorrow. i have been losing about 0.5 to 1 pound a day so far, but the last 2 days i have stayed the same. how can we not lose when we are eating barely 600 calories a day AND walking. i can only think that it may be Water gain from a period or salt...but even so... it doesn't make sense. i have lost 19 pounds since day of surgery.

Yes it's weird. My guess is that the body is coming out of shock and trying to store fat as were pretty much starving it. I'm guessing it will just snap out of it when it doesn't have a choice but to use up our fat and glucose storage.

Well I guess we can look on the bright side. I've also dropped 19lbs since surgery on 9/10.

Your body has to adjust... you just had a major surgery! I know the point of this surgery is to lose weight, but I still only get on the scale once a month. No point stressing yourself out by obsessing over that scale! It's just a number! If you keep doing what you're doing and stay on track, your body WILL catch up. I promise!

greg....here is what i found on another's site...makes sense...so we can stay positive!!

A "stall" a few weeks out is inevitable, and here's why.

Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of Water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet.

As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a saber tooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.

I'm almost into week 6 and my nutritionist reminded me that, generally, our bodies think we are all starving, so they slow down on any weight loss and hang onto some fat...one of those body mechanisms left over from our caveman days when man might have to go a while before his/her next meal.

One our bodies figure out that we're not starving, it will stop storing fat and start burning fat and turning into energy. So don't get discouraged, stick to your good, healthy eating plan with lots of Proteins, and you'll get over the hump soon. Everyone's body is different. My slump started just after week 2 and it still going on, but I have faith!

It happens to everyone and I do mean everyone. We just did a traumatic thing to our bodies and that's about the time the body says WHOA hold on here. Don't be discouraged. Stay on task and this too shall pass :-)

I am the same as you. I had surgery on 09/10 and lost 24 lbs right off the bat, the last 2 weeks NOTHING. The scale even went UP 1 lb!!! so frustrating!! Its encouraging to see that everyone goes through this! I'm ready to end this stall though!!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
