vsg_candy 20 Posted September 30, 2014 (edited) I am really struggling on deciding which surgeon. How are you all deciding? Are their websites someone is willing to share where you can search credentials? How did you decide? Thank you for the advice i am driving myself crazy... JamieLogical 8,710 Posted September 30, 2014 I decided based on a number of factors. I checked out all the surgeon's web sites. I checked out all the pricing. But I would say the number one deciding factor for me was just reading all of the personal experiences from the patients on these forums. I read SOOOOOO many posts and threads on here. But, after reading every single post in the Dr. Ariel Ortiz thread, I was pretty convinced he was the surgeon for me and I was right! My surgery went great and I have loved being able to contact OCC with all of my follow-up questions post-op. I feel like there is a true team of people at OCC to support me through this journey. Any time I have a question about whether or not it's okay to eat a certain food, I can email the nutritionist. When I had a concern about the healing of my drain site, I sent an email to Dr. So and he called me back within minutes. It has been fantastic!
mbrinmn 105 Posted September 30, 2014 I also chose by pricing first, then reviews and credential. I chose Dr. Jacqueline Osuna through Specialized Bariatrics. She and her husband, alejandro lopez do only gastric surgeries. here is the web site: http://specializedbariatrics.com/ I had an exceptional experience with Dr. Osuna and staff at the Tijuana Hospital MI Doctor. Forsythia 882 Posted September 30, 2014 I chose my surgeon based on my hospital. Since I like Northwestern Memorial Hospital and all of their practices here in Chicago, I picked one of the two bariatric surgeons at the hospital. The hospital is also a Bariatric Center of Excellence, so that helped. Cost was not a consideration for me since my insurance covered my procedure save for a small out of pocket maximum I had to meet. So if you have an existing PCP attached to a hospital you like, look into their program.
