jessebdiaz 4 Posted September 30, 2014 Hi all, I had my gastric sleeve surgery on July 21st. Wanted to know when will they introduce salads into the diets? Like lettuce, spinach etc?
Forsythia 882 Posted September 30, 2014 Once you are approved for a general diet you should be able to have a salad. However some sleevers have issues with lettuce sticking. So try it if you are on a general diet.
meme8883 6 Posted September 30, 2014 I was sleeved on aug 20 and I have been approved to have salad. I have tried it once so far and I didn't have any issues.
HikeEveryMountain 112 Posted October 1, 2014 I had salads no problem at about 3 months
CrazyJaney 775 Posted October 1, 2014 I tried it at about 6 weeks out. Did ok, little painful. Easier to handle at 3 months. Now at 6 months, I love the chopped salad kits (I add turkey, cheese, etc). The chopped lettuce is perfect to chew up smaller. Sometimes it sits a little "stiffly" (if that's a word) but it so satisfies a need to crunch! As long as I add some Protein, it's good to go. I'm probably rare in that I tolerate most things. I have only "slimed" once (omlette) and had dumping only once (fruo-fruo drink with ice cream in it - only had a few sips). I stick to protein first and count everything. I'm so thankful I can still do salads.
livvsmum 2,369 Posted October 2, 2014 I did salad probably 2 months post op, but it was pretty uncomfortable and still isn't my favorite thing. I do order them a lot with chicken on them because it is a good out-to-eat option, but eat the grilled chicken off of it first and then only have a couple bites of room left for the lettuce. meps413 46 Posted October 3, 2014 I started at about 5 weeks post op, because it was on my approved food list. I used the bagged shredded lettuce, with shaved deli turkey or chicken breast, chopped small. I never had a problem.
JanetPRN 496 Posted October 3, 2014 Even after a year, salads do not hold the appeal they used to have for me. It's like lettuce is too much work. It takes up a lot room , and doesn't leave enough room for Protein ( chicken, egg, etc) . I am left feeling full AND hungry at the same time. Spinach goes down easier than ice berg or Romaine lettuce. My salads consist of Tomato slices, cukes or other chopped veggies, but in pretty small quantities and mixed with meats or cheese.
