Any November Sleevers for 2014 need surgery buddys?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I just found out today that I will be a November sleever as well. I was supposed to have surgery in July, but got sick. All is great now. Just heard back from the surgeon that my date is Nov. 26th. the day before Thanksgiving! I will be going through Kaiser, Fontana. :D

I just scheduled my surgery for November 24th. I'm in Texas. Very nervous about the whole process and hoping it's the right answer. I'm just so tired of being overweight and wanting to be healthy again. It's been about 26 years since I felt good about my body, so I'm ready for that.

Preop 11/5 and surgery 11/19 for me! My PA asked me if I was sure I wanted to be on a post op liquid diet over thanksgiving....I told her if that mattered to me at all I wouldn't be going through all this. BRING IT ON!!! Oh and by the way, I'm also almost 8 weeks nicotine free! This journey finally gave me the motivation to quit smoking.

Congrats on so many things but the smoking thing is HUGE! I am November 8th and I cannot wait - truly excited!

Good luck!

Ok, I will be a November 3rd sleever. This has all happened so fast and i have been let down before so i have not really started looking into everything until today. I keep expecting for them to say...oops never mind we wont be able to do your surgery.

So with that being said - yesterday saw the nurtritionist and Monday I am to start on my pre op diet. I guess I need to look into getting a blender, find some recipes or food ideas after surgery - discovering what to expect post op.....

Nutritionist is not real strict about drinking their own product, but she has set guidelines for me and I can look for some to try and see what works well. 150-200 calories, ( i forgot the rest, its all written down in my paperwork ) etc,

Does anyone have any good ideas or things you think would help ?

Have you guys not had regular visits with nutritionists and already started in your healthy eating plan? My surgeon required 6 months of managed nutrition during which I began the necessary Vitamin regiment and monthly weigh ins, after guidance on fat/ calorie/ Protein and sugars. In fact she had us counting protein every day to ensure an intake of 60 grams or more daily. I honestly could not imagine approaching this surgery without that education. It was invaluable. Beginning practicing early how to eat properly and healthily for 6 months made it a habit that I'll continue, in fact I've already lost 30 lbs just utilizing what I've learned. I strongly suggest if you are only meeting with a NUT once, you commit to memory what they teach you. I can't tell you what it was for me to truly learn how I got this way, and how I can prevent it again.

Hey guys! I am scheduled for pre-op Nov 4th and surgery Nov 20th. Insurance would not cover it so I am using basically all my savings, but I can't think of anything better to spend the money on than my health! If anyone on here is religious, I would appreciate the prayers! Good luck to everyone ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
