Does the hospital send you home with compression socks? I am a week away from surgery and haven't heard anyone mention this. I had a pair after pregnancy, butthey were for gestational diabetes.

Mine didn't but suggested I bring some as I had to fly home afterwards so I just bought a pair off Amazon.< /p>

Yes I was sent home with compression socks as I am at a high risk of DVT. I was also given a ten day supply of anti-blood clotting injections to self-administer. When I asked how long I should keep the socks on I got various vague answers but the last one was 'until you are back to being as mobile as you were before the op'.

As I have no-one at home to help and couldn't reach the socks to take them off/put them back on due to post-op pain I ended up leaving them on in the shower and then drying them off with a hairdryer afterwards! After that got friends to help me with them.

Mine did not. Once I was up and walking they said I didn't need them anymore. Just make sure you keep walking once you get home. GL!

@@maggiemayuk are you on lovenox injections?

The compression socks are to help avoid DVT and help your blood circular in your legs esp good if you are not walking and moving a lot

Compression socks are used to keep the blood moving in your legs so that you don't get blood clots. No, I did not have a drain. Depends on the surgeon. I asked ahead of time so that I would be prepared. I was so thankful that my doctor doesn't use them.

Congrats on your choice in being healthy, I was not released with the compression socks but had them on after I had my surgery, they came off once I was up and walking and as my doctor said burning rubber with my slip socks and IV pole, he stated that since I was doing such a good job I did not need them. The funny thing is when I started walking after hours of surgery you would have thought that I did not have surgery at all I was feeling great . Then the pain kick in the middle of the night but I was on great pain meds so I was fine. I stayed two nights in the hospital and was release on the third day in the morning and I was feeling great, after all the gas came out on day four I went out for a walk to get some fresh air.Good luck my friend and keep us posted on your progress.

@@OhSoNique Yes, the injections are Lovenox - called Clexane in the UK, but basically enoxaparin sodium.

Whether you are given these or asked to wear compression socks for longer will probably depend on your age, other medical conditions and general fitness pre-op.

My surgeon doesn't use drains. In fact, looking at the size and neatness of the incision sites I can't imagine why a drain would be necessary for laparoscopic surgery.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
