Jobs involving the Lap Band?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I had lap band surgery around 16 months ago and I'm down about 120 lbs (10 from my goal). I'm 25 and looking to make a career change and was really interested in seeing if their are any careers out their dealing with the Lap Band (besides a surgeon). Was just curious if anyone has an opinion or suggestion feel free to comment. Also not opposed to going back to school to obtain another degree. I live in Illinois and currently have a marketing degree.

This is out of my area but I just wanted to chime in and say way to go -- ten pounds from goal, happy and healthy at 25, you will make a great career choice!

Ask at your doctor's office about career opportunities in the field. The first things I thought of are the nutritionists and the patient liason position. Maybe even something on the clinical side if you're willing to go for another degree. My friend's daughter graduated college with a graphics design degree and she couldn't find a decent job. She went back to school and got her nursing degree and is now taking classes to be a PA. She's only 35 and has a whole new career...and one that she will always be able to earn a living from I might add. Good luck. Let us know if you find something that piques your interest.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
