My hair has gotten so thin

Recommended Posts

It already falls out because of the chemotherapy I take, but I have been off of that since the end of June. I can only guess it is due to the surgery.

I am just hoping it stops falling out at some point. With the small dose of chemo I take every week, I do have regrowth. With this, it just seems like it is falling out with now recovery!

Is this going on with anyone else, or has it happened to you? Does it come back in at some point?

it is very normal around 3 months post surgery and it does stop and grow back from everything I have read. Biotin chewables help according to some folks.

My understanding is it starts falling out about 3 months post-op and lasts until about 6 months post-op. Mine is also coming out in handfuls. Luckily I have thick hair so you can't tell, but man if I didn't I would definitely be bald.

I am 3 months post op and mine has been coming out also. I understand that it can happen and that some of it has to do with anesthesia in addition to having the surgery. Most say there's comes back and some use Biotin Shampoo and find that really helps.

With chemo and surgery, I think you may be double whammied, so to speak. I would talk with your doctor and see if they recommend upping your Vitamin D3 and B12 in addition to adding Biotin shampoo.

Bless you,

Clarissa

I am having issues with strictures and being able to eat and drink right now. It takes me all day to sit here and take my medicine. I do take Vit D already as prescribed by my Rheumatologist. I take 50,000 IU two times a week.

I may see abut this Biotin shampoo. Thanks everyone!!!

I'm not sure about a Biotin Shampoo but there are biotin supplements. My Dr recommends 10,000mg per day.

Nioxin is the Shampoo system. My hair dresser said it won't prevent loss but helps it to grow back!

Does the Vit D help with joint pain?
And my hair just started coming out in clumps in the shower and when I comb/pik it. It's depressing. I thought it wasn't going to and I got lucky but nope. :(

If you are Vit D deficient, you exp more pain. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and when my levels are below normal, I cantell it. I take 100,000 iu per week to stay where I need to be.

I am having a lot of Hair loss. Handfuls after showers.

You and I can be a couple of baldies together and just rock it!

It really is rough seeing all of that hair come out. I guess the best thing to do is stay positive if we can!!!

The hair falls out due to lack of Protein. However there is several weeks lapse in seeing the effects of lack of protein. You must get in all your protein in.

Mine is not sure to a lack of Protein. I know that for sure. In fact, my bw protein level was good. It's from the rapid weight loss+anesthesia, or just the anesthesia.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
