I can't wait for my liquid/protein week to be over! I know it's for safety reasons. So I will gladly adhere to the post op diet...but I went to the store today and bought tons of mush/purée food

Gerber pears, peaches, applesauce, Apple/mango/kiwi, oatmeal (for mechanical phase), unsweetened applesauce, sf Jello (can't wait until I can add fruit to it! My sister and I both love banana and peaches in different jellos), no sugar added Libby peaches and pears, a huge tub of fage greek yogurt, and I think that's about it...looking forward to the next phase ????

Are you allowed to have cottage cheese and other soft cheeses yet? I was allowed scrambled eggs and cottage cheese in my pureed stage, which really helped a lot with getting my Protein in. While apple sauce and such are a nice change of pace, the lack of Protein made them seem like kind of a "waste" when I could eat so little to begin with and I needed so much protein. Hopefully you can at least mix some unflavored Protein powder in there.

If you are allowed soft cheese, I highly recommend Shelley's Ricotta Bake (recipe on this page). It's got a fair amount of protein and it's almost like eating real food! I eat 1/6th of the recipe per sitting and it's 157 calories and 13 grams of protein.

Biggest mistake i made was with the baby food, YUCK, now i know why babies spit that stuff out!!! It was yucky, even the bananas and custard was gross and forget about the meat and veggies, yuck just yuck!

Use your imagination, there are lots of soft / pureed foods you can have, I used to have protien shakes with 2 tbls of greek yogurt and skim plus milk for added protien, they were delish. I would puree chicken and add some sauce, or mayo same with tuna. cheese Soup was one of my favs and ricotta cheese, all high in protien.

Hahaha! I actually don't mind the fruits, I am going to add my Unjury powder to them. It takes the work out of making my own applesauce and stuff for now. I plan on finding things to mush up, but I have a horrible issue with textures...like puréed meat would not work for me...and I don't eat mayo which I know people use to help wet the meat...ugh if only I weren't so picky

I just started the purée foods today. It went well felt full off 1 1/2 tbsp of tuna and one cracker. Didn't feel so hungry for the baby food . Remember you don't have to finish it all and take your time in eating . I guess I just wanted something to chew to make it feel like I was eating. Good luck. ????

The baby food fruit was fine - I liked the squeezy pouches. The meat was gross. DON'T BUY ANY BABY food MEAT! Even if you doctor it up and season it, its gross gross gross. I ended up eating a lot of cheese and yogurt.

My boyfriend (who is the chef around here), took regular meats and veggies and zazzed them in the blender to whatever consistency I needed for softs and purees. The baby food got old after two days, and I was preferring the fruit over the more necessary meat and veggies. The first thing I ate when released to regular foods was Wendy's chili, two doors down from the surgeon's office!

That's too funny, because I did the EXACT same thing yesterday. I'm still not allowed solids yet, but as of yesterday I was allowed ground meats, Beans, and soft whole grains. So the first thing I did was hit up Wendy's for lunch and ate half a small chili! It was a bit of a reality check for me, because while it went down and stayed down fine, half a small chili was probably about 2-3 bites more than I really needed. Before my surgery, when I was DIETING, my go-to DIET meal at Wendy's was a small chili, a 4-piece chicken nugget with BBQ Sauce, and a small Frosty. It truly is crazy to realize how much less I can eat now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
