Do I need to have someone with me when I go home after surgery? I don't want my husband to take more than one day off if needed. He doesn't really have any time off since it's a new job.

It's my understanding that someone must drive u home from the hospital maybe u could arrange for another family member or a friend to pick u up and drive you home if your husband cannot best of luck

I live alone and managed just fine after surgery. Unless you have complications of some sort I don't see the necessity of having someone there. It will help you be more active anyway, which is good.

I had all my "stuff" reafy before I went to the hospital. Including a thermos to keep hot broth by my bed. It is good to move around as much as you can. My pain was more soreness. I only took meds the first night home, but of course everyone is different. Best.

You could have your husband pick you up after work. My understanding is, the day you are released from the hospital ends at the end of the day 11:59 PM. It is true at my hospital but check with yours just in case. My husband will pick me up around 6:30 PM.

I was told by the hospital/doctor: You are not allowed to drive for five days after surgery and the hospital won't release you unless you have ride.

I managed fine on my own the day after surgery and beyond. You shouldn't drive while you are still on pain meds, but if you are just staying home all day, you should have no trouble caring for yourself.

I drove myself home 5 hours three days post op...I wasnt taking any pain meds. I live alone and was able to take care of myself, 2 cats, 3 dogs and 2 horses by myself just fine. I was a a little sore and tired, but there was nothing I needed help with. The the 20 pound lifting limit was easy to manage and work with....just took a couple extra trips to get the horses fed.

Thanks guys, but I really didn't feel that bad. It was pretty much business as usual as soon as I got home. My neck fusion surgery was way worse and there were LOTS of pain meds involved. I had my mom come stay with me for 10 days for that one.

Thanks I appreciate the input. I think I will be ok home alone. This way my husband can save his time for a future vacation

I would have been fine without help, but my mom insisted. I finally kicked her out after 3 days. That said, everyone is different, some folks are really weak and need a little extra help. I did not. I was only in the hospital overnight, never needed narcotics for pain and went back to work the next week, (early). They probably WILL require you have someone to drive you home. Early on I'd asked if I could take a cab and they told me absolutely not for liability reasons they want to release you into the care of "someone".

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
