I'm so ashamed

Recommended Posts

So my surgery was 9/15/2014 and i have been doing ok so far. Had horrible pain from the drain but got it taken out 9/24 feeling so much better. Today my mom left to go home and i busted out crying like a little baby (i am the baby tho????) after she left i took a nap and woke up and did something I'm so ashamed to say because i have lost 25lbs since 9/11. I ate about 10 chips because she forgot to take them. I'm still on liquids. But i couldn't stop. When i did i crushed them up and took them out to the garbage dump. I'm so sick now my stomach is literally going crazy. Anyone done this? Or am i just really horrible. I should have taken my behind out and walked it off. ????????

Be kind to yourself. You know how important it is to comply and you messed up. I see two choices, learn from it, be thank full you didn't cause injury and persevere. You cannot change the past but you can make the right choices today.

Option two is to get caught in the guilt shame cycle and overeat again to cope with that.

Hang in there, it does get easier.

In the beginning I had a few incidents of uncontrollably stuffing something in my mouth and chewing it up. Most of the time I would end up spitting it all out because I was scared of hurting my sleeve incision.

It does get easier. It feels like your brain is calling out to eat junk...I actually think it's because our brains do indeed become physically addicted to certain foods (usually high carb crap like chips). But it does get easier. The longer you go without the crap food, the less it appeals to you. Before long you will find that you can throw food away instead of eating it, and that you can handle and cook foods which you don't even want to eat. It's pretty powerful to scrap uneaten food into the garbage can. Before VSG I treated my stomach like the garbage can!! I could never throw food away, I would quickly inhale it first.

Don't beat yourself up. CowgirlJane was right...you don't want to or deserve to get stuck in a guilt/shame cycle over ten stupid chips. Just throw those suckers out, don't buy anymore, and move forward.

Good Luck!!

Learn to forgive yourself and move on. Only your stomach was altered, not your brain. Be present in the moment, recognize the emotions behind your actions, and simply move on.

The mistake is less important than recognizing the behavior behind it. That's really what counts because many more moments like this will occur in the future.

Omgosh you friends (yes friends) are such a inspiration. So helpful. I literally walked them to the garbage dumpster and threw them in. I am going to forgive and move on next time pray there isn't I will go for a long walk and "shake it off" thanks so much for always getting right back to me and making me feel like I'm very much normal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
