Weight gain pre-op.

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Im in month 1 of my pre op program because my insurance requires 4 visits/2 months. I had my first visit and met the dietician and surgeon. I wasn't technically told to lose weight yet, but I already started to try and diet because I knew that is going to be asked of me at some point. But...somehow, with my luck, I gained like 3-4 lbs. Has anyone else gained after the 1st visit. I go on Tuesday back for my 2nd appt and im somewhat embarrassed that I actually gained weight. Do they weigh you with every visit and report it to the insurance company, or do I have time to save myself and be more strict with dieting over the next two months. Do they actually try to get approval from the insurance right away, or you go thru the 3 months first then they try and get approval. I just don't know if im gonna be denied right away because I already gained a few pounds.

Anyone go thru this?

At my first clinic appt I was weighed and told to lose x amount of wieght I was also told any wieght u loose doesn't count for ins approval unless they weigh u and record it at the dr office/ bariatric clinic different drs and clinics have different rules ask them what the protocol is that they follow that way u can know what to expect good luck

I was told that it is very common for people to gain before the pre-op liquid diet. My surgeon also told me that once it is documented that you meet the criteria for surgery, that any weight fluctuation is irrelevant

I have to complete 4 visits. My insurance wanted my last weight recorded by my family doctor. My surgeon was not worried about x amount of pounds lost. My dietician is. She weighs me at each of our monthly sessions. I gained the first month. I told her I was having food funerals. I am using Lose It and this second weigh in will show a loss of four pounds.

I was told not to lose any more weight, to try to maintain where I am at. This is not going to well for me because I'm at a lost. I probably could have maintained my weight if they hadn't told me that; but now that they have I have gained at least 2 pounds. My dietician keep telling me I am fine because I am still below the weight that I started with. I thought they whole point of the supervised weight loss plan is to lose weight; but this is not always the case.
