How much walking is everyone doing!

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm 6 days post op and feel great because I walked 1/2 mile this morning. Flat surface, sidewalk, neighborhood. I'm just wondering how to gage the distance. I know we are all different, but I don't want to overdo, but I also want to be sure I'm doing enough. Would love to hear from you all!

I think you are doing great! I had a pretty rough start and have only been able to start walking within the last few weeks.

It actually feels really good to walk and on the days I am not doing it, I want to be doing it! What would be better is having a walking buddy who is in the same stages as I am.

Keep up the good work! I think they gave me some info on what to be doing as far as exercise after surgery, but I am not sure.

I think your body will tell you if you are overdoing it.

You're doing great. My doc said to walk as much as you can even if it's 4 10 minute walks or all at once. I've been walking about 1-1.5 miles per day. I did a 4 mile walk a week ago. Not on purpose, but I locked myself out the house and figured I'd just walk till the wife gets home lol. I just try to get at least 30 minutes. I use an app called cardio trainer to track speed and distance. Then I try to compete with myself. Congrats! Just listen to your body. Take it easy. What I noticed was when I tried to walk too fast, it aggregated my abdomen. So just take it slow and work your way up.

I'm day 4 post op I did 20 laps around the nurses station day after surgery n day of I could only do 2 bc I got weak. Day I came home I walked to the car didn't want a wheel chair yesterday I was tired and chose to stay in the house bc it was so hot and I didn't wanna over do it I walked alot thru out the day I was up walking every hour today I went with my dad to the grocery store and walked around with him since it was raining. Tomo I'm hoping to walk my road outside. Little walking each day helps with weight loss too right? Tomo will be day 5 for me I'm still on liquids til next Tuesday then I start pureed foods which I'm kinda scared I'm so content with my liquids lol

Every bit helps. I'm 3 weeks post op on Monday. Doc just put mute on puree 2 days ago. It's a lot better than liquids. I still do a shake. I bought some resistance bands and my wife and I go running(well I walk/run) now. I work up a sweat[emoji4] . Good luck. Keep it up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
