geckowoman 8 Posted September 27, 2014 Well, it is finally here. My sleeve is scheduled for this morning. Not too nervous, but feeling a few last minute jitters. I will be picked up by a shuttle for the trip across the border in about 30 minutes!

mick 99 Posted September 27, 2014 I am trying to think of something encouraging to say but all that comes to mind is "May God keep His hand on you and you have a speedy recovery."
luckyone5 22 Posted September 29, 2014 How are you feeling? I have been thinking about you:)
geckowoman 8 Posted September 29, 2014 Thanks, Luckyone. After starting my procedure the surgeon closed me back up without sleeving me. it tunes out that I had a huge hiatal hernia that couldn't be repaired. The surgeon said that trying to sleeve me would be too dangerous. So I am home now and resting. Very disappointing outcome, but I am just glad I picked a wonderful surgeon who was looking out for my best interests and future welfare.
KristenVSG2014 1,872 Posted September 29, 2014 Where do you live? If I fly all the way to Mexico after spending over $800 on plane tickets and taking off 2 weeks of work and aren't able to have my surgery I will be quite irritated. Did you have any existing symptoms from the hernia?
geckowoman 8 Posted September 29, 2014 I live in Texas, so I was able to drive down and back. I am not irritated about it. I was given a generous partial refund and I am just glad to be home and relatively healthy. other than incisions hurting, I feel pretty good, no nausea. geckowoman 8 Posted September 29, 2014 I had no symptoms at all of the hernia. I was very surprised.
KristenVSG2014 1,872 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Well it's good you were able to drive. Also good that you are healthy besides the hernia. So what is the plan? Do you need to have the hernia repaired here in the States? I have made a lot of sacrifices to make this surgery happen and two weeks after sending off my check for $4,500 and booking $800+ plane tickets we found out my husband xxxxxxx. So yeah, this surgery is the only thing I have to look forward to right now. It's gotta happen. Edited September 29, 2014 by krisrpaz
geckowoman 8 Posted September 29, 2014 He said as long as I am asymptomatic, he would not recommend the hernia repair. About 65% of my stomach was above my diaphragm and was fused in place. I hope that your surgery is successful, and I am so sorry to hear about your husband being laid off. hang in there and try not to worry.
