What are your NSG's (Non Scale Goals)?

Recommended Posts

I saw a thread earlier that got me thinking... What are some non scale related goals y'all are looking forward to? Here's a couple of mine.

Sky diving - Crazy, I know, but it's something I've always wanted to.

Kayaking - My hair stylist, who is also a friend, goes all the time and we've already got a "date" for her to show me how next summer.

Clothes - I recently purchased 2 shirts that are my two goal items. I can't wait to wear them!

Crossing my legs - Can't remember the last time I was able to do that!

Sitting cross legged - I rarely, if ever, get on the floor now but can't sit "Indian style". Looking forward to doing that again!

Run - I've always thought that running would be so therapeutic but my knees can't take it right now.

Those are just a few of mine. What are yours?

For my feet and ankles and knees to not hurt all day at work.....check!

Crossing my legs....check!

To wear size 12 jeans....check! (actually in 7's now)

Swing up into my saddle without needing a rock or log to stand on....check!

Go hiking again without feeling like my lungs are bleeding....check!

The only goal I've really got left is to stay this way for the rest of my life.....

Most of my goals were non scale. I freaking kick most people (dudes included) butt hiking. No high or borderline blood pressure, my A1C (diabetics indicator) is excellent. My doc is younger than me and says she wishes her labs were as good as mine. ;)

Oh and today I was shopping at Nordstroms and the clerk said that she loved my outfit and how I was "put together" (ha from Ross Dress for Less) and nobody said that before even if I was dressed to the nines.

To run the 2015 Honolulu marathon with my husband wearing something cute and skimpy. (and then spend a week lounging at the beach without being self conscious)

@@Kindle This one made me laugh.
Go hiking again without feeling like my lungs are bleeding....check!

I cannot wait. CONNOT WAIT to cross my legs. And sit on my hind legs. I'm in grad school getting my masters degree in Occupational Therapy and I want to be able to get on the floor and help people. This will help me.

I have a million: from scratching my ankles and painting my own toenails to walking on the beach to getting a great job. Most of mine are pretty basic.

I'm so excited to be able to:

Cross my legs again

Sit Indian Style on the floor

Play with my grand babies and not get winded

Bend at the waist to tie my tennis shoes - Check!!!!!

Participate in fun activities - Check!!!!!

I have to tell you - I actually climbed into a military Humvee today and was able to get up on the roof through the gunners opening! It was so fun!!!!

Climb a flight of stairs and not have to hide being winded at the top.

Paint my toenails/tie my shoes.

Try on clothes/shoes without breaking into a sweat 10 minutes in.

Go to a mall and buy clothes from a store with no plus size section.

Hike the Grand Canyon.

Go out to a fancy restaurant and actually feel like I deserve to be there just as much as the skinny people.

Fit into an airplane seat again. Comfortably.

That's the beginning of my list!! ????

That is a great question!! So many are just so hung up with the # on the scale when really its about how we feel about ourselves that count the most!!!

For me, I cannot WAIT to go shopping and find a smaller size, go into the dressing room, and have it fit the FIRST time I try it on. I cant tell you how any times I have gone to a clothing store (several) and grabbed a few sizes only to find that none fit. Its so discouraging and its also so embarrassing.

I also cant wait to run more. I love to play sports and have always been active. Being overweight has really held me back in this regard. I feel like getting surgery will allow me the ability to get a second life on this.

Lastly, I cannot WAIT to tell my patients about my success. I work in a Bariatric Clinic and we offer medical and surgical weightloss. Some of my patients who are unsure if surgery is the right thing to do for them ask me "would you do it?"....and I cant wait to tell them that I have! And then to go on to tell them my progress as they follow-up with me during their surgical pathway.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
