GAAAH! I only have 8 weeks to prep!

Recommended Posts

I need a dog sitter. I need a ride. I need to catch up on laundry. I need pants with elastic in the waist to recover. I need to write a will. I need to clean under my cabinets. I need an overnight bag for the hospital - I can't go in there all Tommy Boy with spare undies and a toothbrush stuffed in a garbage bag!

Protein shakes! Setting up my work laptop to work from home! Getting my paperwork in order! Getting into the gym and getting stronger before surgery so when I'm not able to do anything but walk, I don't turn into a wet noodle! Finishing up some nasty financial business without having an anxiety attack!

Crap, did I accomplish *NOTHING* over the last year??????

*Whew*...ok, panic over. Just needed to get that out.

I saw this post yesterday and thought, "Wow! that's not much time at all!". I looked at the calendar this morning and I realized I only have 7 weeks left!!! My sleeve date is 11/14. It doesn't feel like enough time, but then it feels like it isn't soon enough.

Yes! That makes perfect sense - it's never going to get here, but oh crap, is that all the time I have left??? :) I'm sure we could both find a billion things to do between now and then that will leave us feeling not ready.

Best of luck to you - we're almost surgery date buddies!

That was exactly what I was feeling and I have specific Vitamin requirements through Kaiser, couldnt find everything, had a small health scare then had a small meltdown. Decided there was WAY to much going on to get my surgery 10/2 so I changed it to 11/6. Now I wish I had not changed it, that last week has gone by so SLOW...but I do have one month to finish up things. I need to get my house in order, will updated, life insurance in order, a few more supplements, a few more Protein shakes and 2 more Vitamins. I have plenty of clothes I just need to get out what will be comfy enough to come home in and walk around the hospital...I lost my mind when I was 2 weeks out. I am hoping for more peace this time:)

Sounds very familiar! I was originally offered a date of 10/18, and asked for more time to get everything together!

Please don't give in or give up. Surgery here in US is usually an overnight deal. While it is a life-changing experience most of the initial change is how much you can eat. It's a pretty common surgery used for years with people who have had stomach cancer or bad ulcers so it is a tried-and-true surgery. I was sleeved August 25, 2014 the worst thing that's happened to me was gas and constipation/diarrhea. Good luck and don't take much to the hospital.

Thank you! I've been thinking about that too, and it's good to have a reminder not to pack like I'm moving in, lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
