Excess skin , best tips to minimize

Recommended Posts

Hi folks. Anyone have tips to minimize the excess skin while shedding the pounds? My wife and I are getting the surgery in a little over a month and we are concerned with that. Her more so than me just based on body shape and where we anticipate the excess to be. For me will be my belly for my wife probably arms legs and belly. So trying to see what we can do to minimize as much as we can.

Also what are tips for men and women for hiding excess the best when reach maintain weight and if can't afford or choose not to have excess removed. Thanks all

I always refer people to this article when this question comes up:

http://www.muscleforlife.com/how-to-get-rid-of-loose-skin-after-weight-loss/

The best things you can do as you are losing weight are:

  • lose slowly (easier said than done with WLS!)
  • stay well hydrated
  • moisturize daily (preferably twice daily)
  • strength training (muscle can fill in where the fat has been lost)
  • supplement (there are lots of recommendations, that article mentions Vitamin C and Beef Gelatin, another one that gets mentioned often is Fish Oil)

Give it time too. Easier said than done I know but some of my skin laxity has improved simply do to the passage of time. We lose weight so fast, we need to give our skin a chance to catch up.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
