Reflux and pain

Recommended Posts

I had my lapband placed in 2007. Initially I lost about 35 pounds and then stalled. After my hysterectomy I noticed weight gain and went back for more fills and basically had 9/10cc. I have never really felt full and the only thing I can't eat is rice and a bun on a burger. Have never felt full but do produce a massive amount of slime that in turn makes me throw up nearly daily. I can actually feel food go down my stoma such as meat! I have gained all my weight back and then some. Earlier in the Spring I started to notice some refflux but nothing severe. Late this Summer it got really bad and I made an appointment with my surgeons office. She totally deflated my band and I swear it made the reflux worse! I am on Prilosec 40 mg. twice daily and eat tums and rolaids like candy with not much relief. Immediately after she took out the Fluid I started belching horribly and haven't stopped for 2 1/2 weeks. A week after they deflated I had an UGI study and an endoscopy that showed no slippage or erosion of the band but a little bit of a Grade A reflux and the lining of my stomach was inflamed. It has been a week after the endoscopy and over 2 weeks since the band was deflated and I continue to have reflux and a lot of intermittent pain on both my right and left upper abdomen and in the middle of my back. I feel so miserable and I want so much to have this band taken out and do some sort of revision but I have some major health issues that make me high risk for any type of surgery. Has anyone experienced the pain thing and what did they do for you? I have an appointment again next week but I feel just miserable. A few months after I had my surgery I had pancreatitis but this feels worse and I had a fever with that. I refuse to let them ever access my port again as fills are always extremely painful because they have a hard time accessing it. I gained 4 pounds since deflation and I don't have an appetite so I am really scared.

@@KimB31 Have your doctors done any other tests on you? For kidney stones or gallbladder? Pain in your back is sounding to me like something I had going on with my kidneys way back long before banding.

For the acid reflux what my husband swears helped cure him was Aloe Vera juice. If you can take a shot of it, kind of tastes like Water from a rubber hose...but it totally cured his reflux and stomach irritations.

Hope your feeling better soon!!

Actually it is ironic that you mention the kidneys because I have some renal calc and renal failure in one of my kidneys but this pain in my back is higher up. They did a bunch of lab tests last week because they were thinking that I might have pancreatitis again but that was negative. I go to my PC today and hope we can find some answers. The pain in my upper left abdomen is above and to the left of where the band port is. You even touch me there and I scream. I am thinking that i am going to have this thing taken out and think about a revision

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
