mikevick2002 4 Posted September 25, 2014 Hey again looking for some answers. I had my sleeve on Sep 2 and I was wondering if anyone has had alcohol this soon. I know I can't drink beer but I was thing V-8 and a splash of vodka or gin not much but I'm missing my alcohol. I've had V-8 already I know I can handle it I was just wondering if anyone has tried any alcohol this early on.
angelicHG7 118 Posted September 25, 2014 I'm afraid... I vowed to wait until New Years Eve!
angierue 214 Posted September 25, 2014 It's recommended that you wait 4-6 months before adding alcohol back into your diet. Personally, I wouldn't risk it this soon. Your stomach is still healing. I know it's going to be tough for me as well but I like to err on the side of caution, especially after such a major procedure.
m4nurse 19 Posted September 25, 2014 My dr recommends a year before alcohol is permitted. I never drink so that's not a problem for me
joatsaint 2,814 Posted September 25, 2014 I was never much of a drinker, so it was about 6 months post-op before I tried a margarita. It didn't cause any problems with Frankensleeve. But I did get a buzz much quicker than normal. :-)
par1959 470 Posted September 25, 2014 At first it was difficult cutting out the booze. However, after month and learning how to cope with life without alcohol I became awake. It was a incredible change. Now people that drink bore me with their same old stories and drama. Since day one I vowed to not attemp to drink until I reach my goal weigh. Keep the brass ring in sight.

angierue 214 Posted September 25, 2014 I'm totally feeling the pain! I looooove a nice cold beer. But if being healthy and thin is my trade off, I'm gonna stick to it! Good luck to ya! Can't wait until I'm on the other side!
bikrchk 1,313 Posted September 25, 2014 I waited a couple of months before tasting it, and even then it was a TASTE. It was probably 6 months before I could actually do a drink and I found what I drank before, (red wine) didn't sit very well anymore. Beer was out of the question as the bubbles filled me up very fast and made me uncomfortable. Do I drink socially now at 1 year out, yes. I've also been at goal for 3 months and count up my extra calories at the end of the day before I indulge. My advice is, wait longer and take a hard look at any "empty" calories if you choose to work them into your day particularly during your loss phase.
auntjanny 289 Posted September 26, 2014 Who knew what a group of partyers we VSG peeps were?! I was a beer drinker. Now that carbonation is out if question I just don't see alcohol as being a big part of who I am! I will miss the sound of a pop a top, but will buy myself some super cute boots or short jacket and enjoy the fun differently from now on!
Forsythia 882 Posted September 28, 2014 I went to a party last night. I drank all the booze. To be fair I was never really a giant booze hound before my sleeve. But I had like five or six drinks last night. Oops. I don't feel like I had any issues with any of them, either. My sleeve likes every damn thing. And I don't feel hung over this morning. I do need to get back on the good girl wagon and not do that again for awhile. I'm almost 5 months post op, btw.
angierue 214 Posted September 28, 2014 I'm not sleeved yet but currently sitting on a plane headed to Vegas... I need to lose 21lbs before 10/15. It's gonna be hard not to go crazy these next three days!!!
auntiemel 275 Posted September 29, 2014 I never really drink except maybe a once a year sangria, but I am going to wait at least a year until I even attempt a sip. With smaller tummies and lower body weights we will get drunker faster. No need for duis

angierue 214 Posted September 30, 2014 I've honestly been reeeeeeeealy good with my food. I've had to modify dang near every dish I've ordered but I've stuck to it. food wise at least... Vodka and club soda are the root of all evil! Ugh... I'm gonna face the music Wednesday morning but I'm scared to step on that scale. Lol Good thing is I've walked all over the place to I'm burning off a heck of lot more calories than normal so fingers crossed it's not too bad!
