1 month post op, how many calories

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 8/19 so it's just over a month post op, at 3 weeks I hit the stall and it lasted just over two weeks, now losing again. I really hate the shakes and having to supplement Protein, so I'm trying to get most of my nutrition from food, but balancing the Proteins, some carbs, and low fat, I use Sparkpeople to track calories and I'm averaging about 700- 750 cal/day. I feel the restriction, I just have to eat slow and chew well, I don't get hungry between meals, I feel satisfied at ~1/2 cup. Does that sound high for calories at this point?

@@vincereautmori, do you "hate the shakes" because you've been having them for a long time, or because you don't have the right brand taste wise? I can't answer the question about the number of calories yet because I haven't gotten sleeved yet.

I never bothered counting calories. My nut actually laughed when I asked her about it. She explained that as long as I got in all my Water, ate Protein first and stuck with healthy food choices (veggies, fruit and whole grains), calories didn't really matter. I was never told to limit healthy fats, either. It's a super simple plan that requires no measuring or tracking or stressing over numbers. And has worked fabulous for me. Sure, I had stalls along the way, but I just stayed with the basic plan through each one and eventually would start losing again. And at 10 months postop, and almost 10 pounds below goal, I still drink a huge protein smoothie everyday....it's an easy way to get in fluids, protein and Fiber.< /p>

I did good to get in 400 calories the first month then I hit the 600 to 700 cal..I am 3 months out an still cant get in over 700..I do Protein first ...to this day I would rather drink a shake then eat especially for Breakfast. Ill eat an egg some days. I use myfitnesspal an track everything. I lose about a pd a day. I hit that stall also at 3 wks an it last 2 or a lil longer also then it just started dropping again an still dropping. :)

I think you are doing fine. At one month out I was averaging about 1,000, but everyone is different. My Doctor told me to target 1,000 - 1,200, but that it is okay if I did not reach it at first.

You've also gotten past the dreaded week 3 stall, so that is good.

Hang in there. Your capacity will increase. Also, your weight loss will slow down, but if you stick to the plan you will keep losing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
