  • BLERDgirl, I just got a Vivosmart yesterday. What is your username and I can add you to my connections so we can compete on who is doing more. :) It will all be for fun but also keep us motivated. I'm going to be really getting serious about it after the holidays.

I have a polar heart rate monitor - chest band and watch, about 3 yrs old. I wonder if that could be paired with the Polar Loop or I'd have to get a new HRM band?

I see you looked it up, but for the benefit of others reading this, it depends on how old the HRM is. I LOVED the loop and hope they resolve the shirt battery life issue. That and the fact that MFP doesn't sync with it are the 2 biggest drawbacks.

I'm Milaxx. I haven't added any connections yet so this will be nice!

One thing I am especially interested in in an activity tracker is sleep monitoring. It seems the garmin just records movement while sleeping but doesn't break it down into light/deep sleep etc. That was one of the pluses on the Misfit; also that you don't have to actively set it to sleep mode, it picks it up automatically, if I understand right.

On my Misfit Activity tracker it does do a good job of monitoring your sleep. It would say out of 8 hours of sleep you got 5 hours and 57 minutes of sleep. I thought it was pretty accurate considering how tired I felt. How ever with the Garmin on the PC dashboard it shows you movement activity which I would assume is when you are lightly sleeping and it shows you the time.

The polar loop also monitors sleep activity breaking it down into light/deep, etc... It does it automatically, whereas I have to tell the vivosmart I am going to sleep.

I tried a Misfit Shine, a Jawbone Up24, and a Fitbit Flex before settling on the Flex for good.

@@drmeow, in my experience the Jawbone UP24 provided the best and most accurate detail on sleep, breaking down into light/deep and feeling pretty accurate. In comparison, my Flex just records asleep/awake based on gross movement and seems to be pretty inaccurate much of the time.

I agree Jawboneup24 is very accurate with how it monitors your sleep. I won one at the Lane Bryant promotion of their new fitness line and I've been testing it out all week.

That said, the Polar Loop was just as accurate in how it monitored you sleep patterns. I just wish the Loop had better battery life.

I may try one of the Fitbits just to complete my test run of the most popular trackers.

Currently the Vivosmart is still valuable because it counts my steps/activity under Water.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
