I'm 5 weeks out from RNY, and I'm frustrated and discouraged. I can't eat or drink without nausea, and many times whatever I put down wants to come up in a "juicy burp" (I'm really sorry if that's tmi). I talked to my nut yesterday and she suggested Popsicles because they take more time and should help going down. However, even the Popsicles make me nauseous. On top of that, since I'm barely eating or drinking, I thought the scales would show something for all my trouble, but I've stalled. I have an appt to see my surgeon next week. I know I have a narrowing of my anastomoses and he may go in and stretch that. Please tell me things get better!

I am as of today one year out and want to tell you it does get easier.

There are meds to help with the nausea and you should ask your surgeon if you can have them.

I feel that you aren't taking in the necessary nutrition and Water that you need to heal inside with.

If you don't you won't heal as well and if you aren't drinking your Water you will dehydrate and wined up in the hospital to get IV fluids.

These are things you should tell your surgeon about immediately so they can help you.

I struggled with things in the beginning but as the time passed things got better. I got healthier.

The best of luck to you and give your surgeon a call tomorrow and see what they say about how you are feeling and what they can do for you until your appointment.

Thank you. I do have nausea medication, and it helps as long as I don't eat anything. The surgeon is aware of the problem, but only sees patients on Thursdays. He was already booked for tomorrow, so I had to take next week. The nut is going to stay in contact with me because she understands how much I am lacking in nutrition and hydration. If things go further south before next week, she said I'm to go to the ER. I'm just feeling down today because it's been a tough road today with the nausea. I'm sure I will feel better about things in the morning. But I so appreciate your encouragement and advice! I need that :-)

I'm sorry things are off to a rough start. I also had my own rough patch in the beginning. Things will get better. Try to get some liquid in even if it's just an ounce at a time. Try different positions when you are drinking and eating like standing up or sitting at a straight 90• ...for some people that get overly full or really nauseous sometimes walking helps. Perhaps it's just gravity. Being dehydrated is not fun...I haven't personally dealt with being dehydrated enough to go to the hospital but there are signs to watch for. You definitely have to hit a sweet spot nutritionally to lose weight. Sounds like your keeping up great communication with your healthcare providers, you will conquer this little bump in the road.

I'm 6 weeks out & one thing I'm figuring outbid that "full" doesn't feel the samovars it used to. When I'm just a little too full now, it feels nauseous. Maybe eat slower & small swallows? I'm sorry you're struggling. My problem is diarrhea & it's exhausting & so discouraging to feel like you've screwed up your body. I know this will pass for you - and me- but I feel for you until it does.

I'm only a week out and having the same problem. Not only do I have the severe nausea but I feel extremely tired and fatigued all the time. Sure hope things get better for us!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
