Day 2 of liquid diet and survived a big hurdle! So proud of myself!

Recommended Posts

I have always been one to turn to food when I am stressed or bored. Today was day 2 of my liquid diet and things got pretty stressful today.

This morning a man shot 2 people and then himself at the UPS delivery warehouse in Birmingham (AL). A little while later I was on Facebook and noticed other friends commenting that my kid's school was on an active shooter lockdown and no one could figure out what was going on. Apparently the shooter at the UPS incident has two children at our school and they had locked down our school before they could confirm he had killed himself in case he came to the school for his kids. So for about an hour I had to imagine my children hiding ( as they are taught to do) and not understanding what was going on. And for one time in my life, when I am so hungry already from the liquid diet I didn't turn to food to comfort me!

I hope my willpower holds up because in the next few days my daughter will learn that the shooter's daughter is her best friend at school. My daughter is only 6 so I am waiting until she learns of it to bring it up to her. I am emailing the teacher tomorrow to see what they are telling the other children about the girl's father's death. That will help me gauge what to discuss with my daughter.

Wow, that's a lot to deal with. Good for you for sticking with your plan. Hopefully you will only have to help your daughter understand that her friend lost her father, and not have to get into how he died. This a tough one. Best.

Thanks. I am only planning on talking to her about what she knows. That is the way I handle most situations. I find out what she knows and then talk to her about that and add what I find is important information and age appropriate. In this situation I hope all she ever knows is that her best friend at school lost their dad. At 6 I hope she is shielded from the how's/whys of the situation. But I guess a lot will depend on what they tell the daughter and what she shares with her friends.

@@Amyly2n so proud of you. Stress is usually a trigger that makes us overeat and what you dealt with is an off the chart stressor. Wishing you continued success and hope you find words of comfort for your daughter.

I am sooo nervous about the pre-op liquid diet. I love food (who doesn't LOL). I feel like I'm going to have to get all the food out of the house and hide the keys to my car to get through it!

P.S. Glad your kids are o.k.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
