What makes you say "feck 'em"?

Hi Selina,

You are only 2 weeks post-op. Congrats on being able to handle tuna. That's great.

I will remember your gas comment. Thanks

Indigo1991,

All that is just jealousy. Do they really think we are taking this big step in our lives just to fail? Keep doing exactly what you are doing and let them keep talking.

Hi letsgetshrunk,

Gastric Bypass is hard, the: decision, pre-op stuff, surgery and recovery not to mention managing living with a medical condition for life. We will always be a "Bariatric Patient." That's a lot to deal with. My basket is full and I don't need mental games with other people. Not now!

You are right about it all being a lot to deal with. I also told very few people because I didn't need the supervision and observation people feel inclined to provide. However, I don't think of it like managing a medical condition at all. I think of it as a gift, and I'm simply managing my weight, like all normal thin people.

Haters are confused fans! Always remember that. Sometimes what helps me is to practice comebacks when people say something mean or rude so I have them in arsenal when the time comes (but I'm Scorpio that way- always plotting the revenge). In the meantime find new friends and new people to hang out with until that person realizes she is really secretly truly, a jealous fan and can admit at least to herself with being hateful or spreading gossip.

I too have gotten comments from people who are actually surprised that I haven't gained the weight back. But actually those rude people may just be helping me by keeping me on my toes, weight wise. I belong to a long time WLS support FB group and it seems like the majority of them have gained back some weight. The good fight to be the best you, will always be a part of our daily life, if we live the way we should we will be fine. What's that ole saying, "Misery loves company" that woman that is waiting for you to regain some weight, just must me one of those miserable people...

I totally say Feck you! to all negativity, including when its coming at me from my own darn head! LOL and if I ever catch myself mumbling one little whiny insecure thing again ohhh no you DONT! Feck that! blocking that voice out for good hehee :-)

Seriously though, some peoples nasty dumb-bum comments can get under you skin, but as hurtful as they can be, it almost makes me want to sympathize and wonder what awful pathetic misery that person must have gone through and come back out with such an ugly outlook on life that they just spew their toxins all over the place.

Feck you dear, please dont contaminate my inner peace and outer loveliness with your germy toxins, I do wish you a speedy recovery :-D

It is very hurtful when so-called friends and family make comments like " You took the easy way out" or " I want to lose my weight the right way" . Until you have gone through bariatric surgery you cannot judge what is easy or not. Also, for the record, I tried to lose weight the "right way" and was successful and I also regained and lost numerous times. My lap band is the tool keeping me on my healthy path.I have to make a conscious effort each day to stay on track.

I just try to avoid the negative people as much as I can. Women especially should be more compassionate to one another and not so judgmental. I work very hard to lose weight and I have to work out even harder to keep the pounds coming off. When people act like surgery is a magical solution to weight loss it drives me crazy!

I admit that "feck 'em" has become a nearly daily mantra for me. It's so refreshing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
