Hello everyone. I'm still pre op, but I have a question, I take multiple meds that I can't do without. How long until I can take my meds.? I can't imagine eating 1 to 2 oz. food with a handful of pills crushed and opened in it. Anyone?

When I was in the hospital, the day after surgery I took a swallow test to make sure I had no leaks in my intestine and that everything could flow through. When it showed I was fine, I took all my pills with little sips of Water, one at a time. The nurses bring them to you and you just have to go slow. I didn't start any Vitamins until I was cleared to go home but it was difficult to get them in the first two weeks after surgery along with my pills, but it got easier and easier as time went by and your pouch adjusted and healed.

I now take 3 Multivitamins, 1 pro biotic, thyroid med, diabetic med, anxiety med, allergy pill and a gall bladder pill, each day with no problem. My surgery was on June 30, 2014 and I am feeling great and have had no problems. I am off all diabetic meds, and gall bladder as of this week.

Good luck to you - I know you can do it!

Clarissa

I don't take my meds with my meal; there are too many (20, half of which I take twice a day). I take my pills with my morning coffee and an hour later I have my meal. I have no problem getting them down and I have several biggies. Just take your time...

Most of my meds I was able to do liquid form (check with your pharmacy) but the ones I couldn't do liquid I had to open up and take them with yogurt. It was not fun. It doesn't last very long though. Pretty soon I was able to take them whole again.

I was told to crush my pills (I take 2) and they crushed one for me in the hospital and put it in Water.... and it was horrible.

Now I put them in yogurt or pudding and let them soften and then swallow it like a little bite.

It works but my pills are tiny.

The day after surgery I started taking my pills whole one at a time with Water.

Vitamins and supplements started two weeks after surgery.

Most of your Vitamins and supplements will be chewable and the ones that aren't you just take.

If you are on any time released meds you need them changed because bypass patients can not absorb them correctly.

By the way I'm off my diabetes, cholesterol, high blood pressure, Migraine and a few others.

Good luck and take care.

That's very interesting about time release meds. Both my medical doctor and my surgeon have approved my time release meds. I will clarify again, but my team of doctors (4) have all approved them.

I haven't gotten any liquid firm pills but I wish! I need Water not sips to take pills so even though my dr doesn't recommend them I am trying the ones that come in a powder then mix with crystal light. Found at Celebrate Vitamins then once I can eat mushy I will mix things in applesauce. I take anxiety meds and they switched me off time release to crush. If I crushed what kaiser recomnends if be eating powder all day. So not sure how it all will work. It's one of my biggest worries.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
