I had mine band done on April 14th by Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. I had no complications and very little discomfort afterwards. He works at a small private hospital (with an ICU if needed) and he and his staff were wonderful. It's been 3 weeks and someone from his staff has kept in touch with me throughout via phone to check on my progress. I don't think I would have received half the quality care/customer service that I received with Dr. Aceves anywhere else.

I paid $8,200 which covered everything (even 2 nights in the hospital if needed). All you have to pay is transporation. I borrowed the money from my 401K.

I had mine done by Dr. De La Garza in Monterrey Mexico. It was the best experience I have ever had with any hospital or doctor.

Like Nick's wife, I used Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and had no problem with infection. I recovered quickly and was treated well by all of the staff. The only minor problem was when I awoke in the middle of the night and the night nurse knew little English. We managed with my broken Spanish and her broken English, so no issues. There are numerous bandsters here who have gone to Mexico and had great experiences. There are a few that have had nightmares, so just do your research!! Best of luck with your decision.

Hi! I was banded on April 13th with Dr. Zapata in Monterrey, Mexico. The whole experience was wonderful for me. The hospital that I had my surgery done at was top of the line. It was a full service hospital, not a clinic. The hospital room was luxurious and the staff was super attentive. The hotel I stayed at afterwards was also beautiful and comfortable. The cost of the whole procedure was $7500 and it included everything except airfare.

Hello. I was banded by Dr. Ortiz 10/2/06. They are great. I had no problems and I have gone back three times for fills. I highly reccomend them. Dr. Ortiz is the leading doctor in lapband.

I am another very happy Dr. Aceves patient. The hospital was clean, amazingly so! There was actually an attempted assassination of a Mexican official the day after my surgery (4-25-06), and the injured were taken to the hospital I was in, for emergency surgery! I understand they both survived.

Dr. Aceves, his staff, and the hospital staff are all very well educated, worked to educate me concerning my band, and were helpful the entire time we were there.

They also worked tirelessly with me arranging after care in the states.

I could not have ask for a better experience.

I'm scheduled for band surgery in PV 4/16/2007. Not to worried about infection, more worried about fills afterwards in the states.

I was banded by Dr. Rodriguez in Monterrey, Mexico, and it was wonderful. The hospital was better than any hospital I've even seen in the U.S., and the nurses were great. Dr. Rodriguez was also very good as was his team. We stayed in the Hilton and it was quite nice and the people there were used to dealing with bandsters. The only problem I encountered is that the seats in the lobby of the hospital are a little deep for recent stomach surgeries and American Airlines was crummy. But I felt like a queen during this procedure and I liked that. I paid $9,000 for the queenly treatment in Monterrey.

Hospital Angeles in Tijuana is a very clean state of the art full service hospital. They have everything there. I liked Dr. Valencia very much. He is also a professor of bariatric surgery at UCLA so I feel he is one of the best in Mexico. The website is www.alighterme.com

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
