I don't know if there is a similar post already, but I wanted to start a place to share awesome products that you've discovered since WLS. Anything goes, like cook books, exercise dvds, bariatric dishes, great tasting Protein shakes, etc.

My most recent discovery is Trader Joe's brand Protein Shakes. They come in chocolate and vanilla. The chocolate flavor has 35g protein! By far the best tasting shakes I've tried.

I also use baby spoons to eat when I'm home. Makes it easier to take smaller bites :-)

Are the TJ's shakes ready to drink? I've checked out their Protein powders, but really prefer something more portable. I don't believe I've ever seen ready shakes there though. I'd be willing to look again for 35g protein per serving!

As far as things I couldn't live without post-surgery:

-cheese sticks-I eat 1-2 every day. I'm not picky about the brand, but prefer reduced fat, cheddar flavors.

-Premier Protein shakes. I don't love them, but their by far the best protein:calories:carb ratio I've seen. I drink one daily.

-EcoDrink Multivitamin mix for Water. Tastes like Crystal Light, but chock full of Vitamins and minerals (you don't see minerals in many drinkable vitamins)

Non food and drink categories:

-when I was still in recovery mode, for the first week or two, I wore an abdominal binder under my clothes at all times, it really helped with the soreness.

-An old-fashioned hot water bottle really helped with the pain while I was in the hospital, and I didn't have to find somewhere to plug it in.

-My couch to 5k app really got me back into cardio when I didn't want to.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
