Oh yes, right after surgery Sept. 18 till this day, my lips are very dry and was so chapped at the hospital my lips were bleeding. Not sure if it was from hydration, or the boogie they inserted for the sleeve measurement. But I have been nursing them by slightly brushing and adding lip cream

Make sure that you are drinking enough. Sometimes, dry lips are a sign of dehydration. Hope you feel better!!!

Not so much for my lips, but my fingernails got very brittle for about three months and then returned to normal.

I'm a year out and am still experiencing dry, chapped lips from the dehydration. I always carry Carmex or Burt's Bees because of the chapped lips - and whenever I put some on, it reminds me to keep drinking my water!

Low B12 can cause those lip symptoms.

Did not know that low B12 will cause dry lips.

Hmmm ... mine are awful!

I've been suffering from chapped lips but didn't make the association until I read your topic headline. I haven't been doing poorly with the hydration, I think I'm nearing 80oz daily or more. but the chapped lips are still there so ... i dunno.

I have tried everything for my extremely dry lips. And nothing is Working. Carmex is manufactured to dry your lips so you become dependent on it daily. Vaseline has helped a slight bit but not much. Any ideas.

Do not use any wax based lip treatments like Chapstick or carmex. They create a vicious cycle and make your lips even dryer. Try Vaseline or aquafore. Also the natural lip balms are great like Eos and Burts Bees. My son has horrible chapped lips that crack open and bleed all winter. It is a constant battle to keep them hydrated.

I've used almost EVERY lip balm! Everyone said, get the OCS, I think it is. Crap. Just on a lark I found this stuff, in a little pot. Absolutely superior to ANYTHING I've ever used and only a $1.49. Stays on for hours and works like a charm. I only have to apply it once or twice a day. Lypsyl is the name. It has a very light yellow pot with a green top.

Extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil on the lips! (And the hands, and the feet, and the loose skin and the thinning hair...yeah, pretty much everywhere)

I use the coconut oil to moisturize my whole body too! We keep a large jar in the bathroom. It works great and doesn't irritate or burn chapped skin. It doesn't take much either compared to some of the lotions I have used in the past. I recommend coconut oil to anyone who ever asks about dry skin or eczema. My youngest child has eczema and a lot of allergies . I haven't found a commercial lotion he can use without being covered in hives. Once he started using coconut oil, no more dry skin and eczema flares are very rare.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
