Hello All

I have BMC mass health I had my sleeve done at Tobey Hospital August 19th buy Dr Krueger. My approval took a couple weeks I had to be proactive. I got the run around. It was a pain in the but. They kept saying it will be send in but no one ever knew if it was. In the end I found out someone sent it in July 22nd last day of my workshop. And Dr Krueger told me I was approved on the 30th while I was there for my nurses education class and last visit with him.

I know it I felt the same way. Like how is this difficult for you all. Don't you do this every day? The office has a serious lack of communication skills. Thank the Lord the Doctors are excellent as well as the staff at Tobey.

I really hope that don't happen to me

I hope not either the extra stress was rough with my high blood pressure. I hope everything works out for you. And don't forget to walk, walk, walk the halls of Tobey Hospital. The gas is brutal but you won't be alone. Good luck.

Got my medical clearance yesterday so how long does it take for them to send to ins

I had to do 3 workshops before they would even send up the insurance request. I started the process in May. Sleeved August 19th. My last workshop was July 22nd I went in July 30th for my last Dr Visit he checked my approval and asked me to come in the next day. Of course that wasn't going to work but he was ready if I was. If the office has it together you can be done fairly quickly. I guess it depends on if you have to do workshops or not.

My work shops are all done monday isy nurse education class

woo hoo your all set you should know by the time you do your last doctor visit. I was told surgery needed to be done within 30 days of the last doctors visit. I say give it two weeks before you start calling them. I kept calling because no one seem to know when my information was sent up. Mass health insurance kept saying they hadn't received a request. Like I said before the communication there sucks. Sounds like you should be good soon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
